Default AMS BOV Block off plate in the works

Just wanted to post up a little CAD shot of our new BOV block off plate that should be available very soon. This will enable you to remove the weak factory BOV on the turbine housing and block it off. Doing so will allow you to run a more traditional Blow off valve and get rid of the problem with the factory unit staying open in the event the ECU deems the boost is too high.

Pricing is TBD

Sweet! AMS wastes no time! If I ever end up with a 2.0T GC you had better believe it will be sporting the entire AMS catalog!

That's pretty awesome. I like the lens flare in the rendering.

sounds like AMS has got their sh*t together! Good to see you guys supporting this car so well. Can't wait until you got the "shop" car built up.

X2, it's not like I couldn't CNC one for free at my former university but the powdercoat is a nice touch. I'd pay for it if the price is right.

An aftermarket BOV will be needed for the delete kit. I am not sure if we are going to make IC piping for the factory IC yet. The inlet and outlet of the factory intercooler will dictate that. If the inlet and outlet are too small to upgrade to a decent size IC pipe, then it would be kind of pointless to upgrade the piping to neck down at the IC. Simply replacing a small section of the factory hard pipe with another that is flanged for an aftermarket BOV would work with the delete kit.

^^^ Who in their right mind (who will upgrade the car) would keep that cigarette carton excuse of an IC?

I am a machinist. I went to trade school for it. Had machine shop jobs all through high school. Was a machinist in the USAF for 4 years. Worked 8 years as a machinist after the Air Force before moving into the speed shop career field. AMS has a full machine shop where I prototype pieces all the time.

In the end, I always look at the time I would need to invest in machining a part versus the pay I get for an hour of work. If a part would take me 2 hours to machine, then this part has a value of 2 hours of my net pay in hours plus material costs. If I can buy it for less (and it is equal to or nicer than what I could produce) then I buy it. If it is more expensive (or not as nice as I could make) then I make it myself.

youve had some fun jobs, hope im that lucky. good reasoning, but that logic doesnt work on me since i have so much free time its essentially worthless and i enjoy machining and designing parts in cad so its leisure time to me part looks nice though, you guys are awesome developing products so quickly and getting feedback from the customer in the design phase. im sure ill be buying products from AMS in the future.

Yeah I'm a CAD junkie, I literally pass my time creating parts just for the heck of it. If I can make it myself even if it's my time I do it because it's also my car so the time I spend working on my car is my hobby time. The only reasoning I make is if the materials are going to cost me more or similar to the part that is already available since it's not the same thing to buy a 1/8" 6061 Aluminum Sheet for one part than buying it in bulk for mass production. Sometimes the materials cost you more than buying the parts.

Sounds like genesis and AdR and I are all have similar traits. I love my job... it is not even a job for me. It is what I would be doing if I was not working. I enjoy doing my own work and building my own parts. Here is my last big project and my pride and joy.

I did just about everything on this car but the paint. 850ish whp and runs 9.0s @ 160ish. 2.4L KA motor and Nissan AT trans.

This is what it looked like the day I bought it.

You sound like a very logical guy, and make a lot sense. I'm also an engineer that likes to tinker around and make my own stuff at times, I use the same logic. I'm an Electrical & Computer Engineer, but in my spare time I've done more Mechanical Engineering than anything else. I think good Engineers can have their hand at all Engineering regardless of their discipline. I also have friends that work at machine shops, sometimes I'm helping them out with ideas and such, and sometimes they help me in producing things I need.

Silly question maybe, but it must be asked.
why the blockoff plate?
I understand with high boost levels the stock bov will start to leak, but with no vacuum line attatched, when does it start to leak?

when I go to a Greddy RS close to the TB with full IC hardpipe, I will be disconnecting the vacuum line to the stock bov.

any real issues with that? is block-off plate needed, and if so, at what PSI does the stocker start to leakout.

hard to ask since the only company that will be testing this sells the blockoff peice, but realisticly, when does a blockoff plate become a necessity.
