Default help - road trip in my turbo

i'm planning to take a 13 hr 900 mi. road trip from louisiana to indianapolis next week and i was wondering if it would be okay to drive up there with my 2.0T. my brother was talking to my friend and his brother and they said it'd be a bad idea!?!?! i don't think it's a break-in issue cuz i read that modern cars don't need to be broken in anymore. they said it was because it was a turbo. but i don't understand it. WHY? it's a CAR.. it's MEANT to be driven!

lol... btw i found out today that the buddy who raised an issue with road trips in my car lurks these forums. please settle this issue for the both of us. thanks

Are you kidding! drive she sh!t out of it. If you're worried about break in then a 900 mile road trip should be just what the doctor ordered. The car isn't going to break itself in parked in a driveway.

I'd drive it like I stole it, then get an oil change. But thats just me.

You wont have any problems with it being turbo.

If you drove 900 miles with it boosting the whole time then you may run into a problem. You will rarely be seeing much boost unless you floor it the whole time or are going up hill the whole way.

There is a break-in period. It specifically states this in the owners manual, and it also states that you should not drive the car the same speed/rpm for en extended amount of time. Aka: going 75mph for 2 hours straight.

Did you at least get an oil change in between?

In canada the manual says there is no break in but if you want to increase the life of the engine stay between 2 an 4 thousand rpm for the first thousand km, also dont keep the rpm and a constant rev.
My tune guy says they wait 2000 km on any new car before they put it on the dyno.
Hope this helps

So they said that it's the turbo causing the problem? What idiots.

Go on the trip, have fun, take pics and get an oil change when you get there, then another one when you get home if you are REALLY worried about it.

Well, here is my 2cents. I got my car (3.8) with around 42km, drove the bag off of it. Break it in the way you will be driving. Its now at 10,000 km in under 2 months and no probs. Oil changes every 5000km.

I always found this very ambiguous. According to the service mgr., they do dyn the thing so at the factory. I didn't baby it so we'll see what happens.
