Okay, so if I bought a Genesis coupe, I could probably only afford the 2.0t 6-speed. I drive a 98 Mercury Mountaineer now, and as bad as that sounds lol, it has leather power seats, a moonroof, an auto-dimming mirror, and the (supposedly?) upgraded stereo system. The 2.0t premium would be nice as it has most of those goodies besides the leather, but I do not think it is within my budget.
I am not sure what I am trying to achieve with this post, but I guess I am just wondering things like you had a car with a sunroof before your GC, do you have one on your GC, and if you do do you use it? If you don't do you regret not getting it? Also, I hate to sound lazy, but are the manual adjusting seats bad? And is the upgraded stereo really that much better? Thanks! |

And I actually prefer the manual adjusting seats. Just lift or pull a knob and adjust in seconds. The electric seats make adjusting last forever.

In any car that I drive that does have a sunroof, yes I use it, and I really enjoy having it. I can't comment on the base stereo, but when it comes to manual vs. power seats, unless there will be multiple drivers driving this car, power seats are extremely over rated. How often do you have to adjust your seat. You should be able to do it once, and unless someone else moves it, you shouldn't have to adjust it again very much, if at all.

I'm in the same boat.
I'm coming from luxury cars ... parents' Lexus. Let me tell you, the GS has more little touches that make you feel like a king. As with the above posted, I prefer manual seats. Especially if I'm the only driver. Set and forget it. The power memory seats are nice when you have more than one driver ... but nobody's gonna be touching my GC once I get it ![]() RE: Audio system, I'm a bit of an audiophile ... with my tubes and dedicated DACs at home ... the Mark Levinson system in my parents car are wonderful. However, the base 2.0T's isn't bad at all. It will be on my upgrade list though, even if I did get the Premium/GT ... stock's just never good enough ![]() Sunroof or lack of sunroof. I always use the sunroof. When there's no direct sun, I open the visor. The light entering the cabin makes it feel a lot more spacious. I use the "vent" option when I'm not using AC. Always. Yeah ... even in winter .. .a bit of fresh air is nice ha. And at night it's always open, I love being able to gaze into the stars at a stoplight. Yeah ... I'm just weird. That said ... I can't say I miss the sunroof TOO much when I'm in a friend's car. I've taken 4h+ trips in my friends base (and i mean base) Impreza before ... and that wasn't an issue without a sunroof. So going with Base 2.0T for me isn't too bad. I'm sure I'll miss it once in a while ... but when I get out of the car and look how pretty she is, I'll forget she's missing a sunroof =)

I've had my base GC for 2 weeks now and I'm glad for the manual seats. Power seats are way too slow for me. Especially if I need to recline them for a snooze while the wife is shopping ...lol! If you are the only driver then its a no brainer. Set once and leave it alone.
The base stereo is good to the mid volumes. If you need base/and like your tunes loud an after market unit would be a cheaper route. As for sun roofs, I've always suspected that there would be issues as the car ages. Besides, I'm in Vancouver where it rains a lot....so when would I use it anyways????

Have you checked into the cash for clunkers program? It may help you get the premium without breaking the bank.
Unless you live in a rainy city, a sunroof is a must on a sports car. Especially since you can't open the windows on the GC without the passenger seatbelt trying to beat the interior into submission. The upgraded stereo seems to be geared towards heavy bass but can't go too low, the mids are somewhat muddy, and the highs pretty loose. It's not a bad system, but coming from having a custom systems in all my cars, even the Infinity system sounds like paper coned speakers with a bazooka tube added. Power seats are one thing I think they should have just left off the car all together, there's not even a memory function that I could find.

Explain that you don't want to have any buyers remorse down the line and since you plan on keeping the car for a while you think the extra features will be nice to have. Explain that you're not asking for the V6 or Track edition and you just want to make sure you're getting exactly what you want with the hard earned money.
Tell him you'll let him drive the car twice a month if he goes for it BTW, I don't think anybody will laugh at someone who can save up most of $16K. Unless you're still 45 and living with your parents... Edit: You'll also get the proximity key and push button start with the Premium package. Makes it all but impossible to lock your keys in the car and you won't have to pull your keys out every time you want to get in your car.

IMO, the stock sound system is decent. I tend to bump my music loud enough so it won't blow the speakers, but at the same time people outside can't hear what I'm listening to. I like turning on the AVC so the volume will adjust to the levels of noise in the car (or is it speed?).

I'm getting a Canadian spec 3.8 Base which is more or less the equivalent of the 3.8 GT in the US (differences being we give up the brown leather for black, and the backup sensors for the LSD).

I think it's more of a personal preference. While I was wating for my 3.8 6-speed to be delivered, I was driving around a base Sonata. It didn't have a sunroof or power seats or a fancy miror, but it really wasn't a big deal. Plus without the sunroof, you get more headroom. I'm 6'3" and fit in mine just fine, about 1/2 inch clearance, but my friend who's 6'4" has to hunch over or lean the seat back. If you're anything above 6'3" or like to sit upright, sunroof delete might actually be a benefit.

I'm looking into a 2.0T base model as well, probably gonna get it in about a month or so and F*ck im excited!
I had one question tho, I supposed I could just call the dealer but oh well, I was wondering if the 2.0T base had the auxiliary cable input for iPods and such? And my personal experience on driving the car...Get it man |
