Default Potential Coupe Owners

For all those thinking about a GC in the near future. DO YOUR HOMEWORK!! Look at all the threads here and specifically the ones about the various issues. Some are minor...some are pretty major. Be prepared to ask question about the car...I was not and made the mistake.

This car has potential...no doubt about that. If Hyundai does the right thing and deals with the issues this car has in a timely and professional manner, worth a look. Time till tell...

If I could do it all over again, I would wait for the 2011 model.

i've been on the forums for a while and have gotten a mix review..i've heard that the early productions of the car did have the most problems and for some reason the track models. what problems did you encounter? i'm planning to get the base 3.8 manual. so far only thing i heard about that is the gear grinding issue but can be fixed by putting better gear oil.

every 1st year car has issue.
every 2nd year car has new issues
every 3rd year car has different issues.

the perfect automobile doesn't exist in this price range. period. it's not a bad car. most of the stuff people are having problems with aren't even hyundai parts, but rather a 3rd party.

It's called being an early adoptor, and in your case, having a p!ss poor service dept to deal with.

If nobody buys the 2010 and deals with these "pretty major" issues then there won't be a 2011 model.

There are plenty of 2010's out there for H to get a feel for whats wrong.

Having owned German, American, Japanese cars.....I think I have some experience. Some of these issues are easily addressed...some, not so much. My BMW was a first series car...no issues. My Honda was a first series car....no issues. My Acura TL, first series...ZERO issues. I quit buying American years ago...they ALL had issues.

Price has NOTHING to do with it. NOTHING. You think you bought a cheap car...I don't. 99% of all cars today have 3rd party parts in them...but collectively they are CONTROLLED and ASSEMBLED by Hyundai..and therefore they assume the responsibility.

When a Boeing 757 crashes, do you hear "An airplane crashed today because of the screw that ACME screw company put on the airplane." Or do you hear, "a Boeing 757 crashed today." Boeing takes the heat and is responsible for correcting the issue and FIXING it on the next airplane in line.

Lets see... ALL of my Hondas/Acuras have had radiators start leaking, AC compressors sieze, alternators fail, my 2 Integras had leaky hatches, RSX's have a creaking dash, Acura Cl's got recalled because of faulty transmissions, my friend is a BMW master tech and won't even buy one because of all the electrical problems, my sister just switched from a BMW to a Mazda due to issues with that, my Dad's Jaguar XKR has plastic sprockets in the valvetrain that break right after warranty runs out, etc... NO CAR IS PERFECT.

You have wierd smells: normal for a ANY new car.
Ipod connectivity issues: jeez ever tried syncing an iPod with ANY aftermarket deck or sometimes even a PC or Mac?
Misaligned hood: Did you bother to look at the car before you bought it?

You have wierd smells: normal for a ANY new car. Not this smell.....plenty of new cars.
Ipod connectivity issues: jeez ever tried syncing an iPod with ANY aftermarket deck or sometimes even a PC or Mac? Why does the XM drop out as well? And then the phone?
Misaligned hood: Did you bother to look at the car before you bought it? I sat waiting for the paperwork guy for two hours..in fact, the place had closed. It was in a poorly lit area and I was in a hurry to get home to put my kid to bed...two hours late.
You are starting to sound like the service dudes.....

You deal with your car the way you want...I will deal with mine.

Being a newbie here, I hadn't even heard of that happening. This might be off topic, but the awesome Hyudani warranty would cover something like that then right?

So far, the tranny issues are not as bad nor as frequent as the 2003 350Z 6MT transmissions. At least nobody's GC tranny has grenaded yet.

After Nissan redesigned the trannies, the problem, and memories of it, went away. I expect no less from Hyundai. They will not ruin their reputation by letting this go unresolved.

And that is what I am hoping for. Like I have said before, this is a great car...with some issues...that I hope to get addressed.

I bought the first year Sonata and have had zero issues, 3 years later it is the same as when I bought it. It is a great car.

The Sonata was one of the reasons I bought the coupe.

I have only had the coupe for a few months but I have no problems and am completly satisfied. Maybe I am lucky, my hood fit is fine, bluetooth phone is fine with no update, no squeeks or other noises, stereo has never failed.

The only issue I can think of was I ran over a screw but the TPMS let me know right away there was a problem.

I would have bought the genisis sedan until I heard the coupe was coming.
I just read that the Genesis Sedan is the Highest-Ranked Newly-Launched Vehicle by J.D. Power

My 2 cents

I've had no problems other than piss poor mileage. But then again I don't own the 6mt.

Pavehawk, call me crazy but maybe you should've bought the car bright and early when you weren't being rushed so you could have checked out the panel alignment. If you had done your homework like you're telling people to do you would have seen that panel alignment has been mentioned in many previous "What to look out for" threads. Buuut, looking at the official thread neither did a lot of the members here, so a lot of us GC owners are in the boat with you. Several owners report their service departments remedying the problem.

As for the funky smell, what is the smell? and as for the xm and phone crapping out...those are legit issues. have you tried troubleshooting the phone specifically by pairing a different phone? have you checked your stereo FW and blueooth FW and asked the dealer to upgrade them if necessary?
