What's the catch?

Now that I KNOW I qualified for financing w/ my local Hyundai dealer, I had planned with them to get all the final paperwork and down payment taken cared of on the weekend of Valentine's day. Today I received a call from my contact their saying that his manager approved of having me just complete all my paperwork THIS weekend AND drive a new GC home, and then just give them my down payment next weekend, like I had planned. Does anyone know if there's some hidden agenda behind this? I'm no expert on buying cars (first time car buyer here!) but it just sounds a little too good to be true.

They probably just want to get the sale on the books for this week... As long as you complete all the paper work they can't change anything after it's done. Just make sure all the numbers are the same and you sign everything.

What is required for a new FS thread?
  • Detailed title of item
  • Detailed description of item (specify if its new, used, etc.)
  • Contact information (Phone number OR email preferred - not just Private Messaging)
  • Asking price
  • Location (State if local pickup or if you will ship)
  • Actual Photos of the item
Any of these missing means your thread will not be approved.

THIS

The kicker that you speak of is making sure that the contract and pricing is laid out to show that you are not getting fees or other things adjusted or added on in order to get your signature now. As long as the contract and info is correct and lays out the rules and process for what they are proposing, you should be ok. I personally would wait (I know it will be agony) because its been a 50/50 crap shoot when something like this was done at the dealer. Some members it went over well, some had issues and then couldn't get out of the problem because they had signed the purchase binding contract.

My personal thoughts would be why am I buying/signing for something I do not have in my hand especially when it is a car that cost some serious money? If possible, I would counter with a small deposit to hold the car if that is the problem and use a credit card. Usually they don't charge the card but rather put a hold for that amount of money on the card until you arrive to finish all the paperwork. Then when you do come in you give them the downpayment instead of using the credit card.

VD and presidents day = sale weekend for cars

which means, the car will probably be cheaper next week, so they want to lock you at the prce this week

once you sign the papers the price cant go up. i no that the dealer has to pay 35 dollars a day for each car on there lot. so the longer it sits there the more money it cost them

Well, I went in, drove my car and did everything in one shot. I was there for about 4 hours though. It was my first purchase as well. Just watch out for the extra stuff the finance guy will try and sell you at the end. He was trying to lump in pre paid for tire rotations on my staggered wheel size car...

Finalized all paperwork today, put down half my down-payment, and tomorrow morning I've got a new ride home!

Nice. When I bought my Chevy 2500hd while home on leave from Iraq, my dealer volunteered to let me drive the truck off the lot that day, all I had to do was give him a check for my down payment and he would hold it until I gave him the ok, which turned out to be a month later. Turned out good for me because I was able to drive my truck for a week before I had to report back. If this dealer sold Hyundais I would be using him again.
