Canada 2.0T
TD Insurance
$195/month
1mil liability, the usual stuff

I was paying $240/month through a broker while 24, bad record but I'm pretty sure nothing in the last 3 years... then I got a speeding ticket for 49 over (he let me off, I was @ 152...) and had been meaning to shop anyway so I did while the ticket was processing so I had "not been convicted" yet I got that rate. I didn't even ask them to reassess the policy when I turned 25 cuz I figure the ticket will negate the age difference. It was almost like TD was giving me a rate for a 25yr old anyway and no one else was so it was cheapest at the time.

Oh and plus... next time they ask I'll have to list my mods... minus PA flash... can be changed on the spot

NJM quoted me just over $1600 a year for the GC. Once my GC comes in and I actually add it to my policy, I will have an exact number.

I currently am driving a 2006 Mazda6, and pay $1411 a year.

I am 22 year old male, with no claims, and a clean driving history.

Everything is more expensive in NJ.

I had USAA for the first 6 months at it was at $110 a month, full coverage for Michigan. Michigan also apparently has some of the most restrictive auto insurance laws and on average are ranked #1 in the nation for insurance costs, at least according to an article I read recently. It said it was like $2400 a year on average for full coverage.

I currently have All State.

750 deductible if it's my fault/nature damage (but some weird discount actually puts it at $650)
$0 if it's the other persons fault

Hi guys!

First time poster here. I don't own a Genny yet but plan on buying one as soon as I know what's happening with the 2012 model. Anyways, I'm in Canada (BC to be exact) and I got a little nervous after seeing some of the insurance costs in this thread. So I made my way to BCAA yesterday to get an idea what I might have to pay if I bought a new GC.

I had the girl quote me on a 2011 GC V6. She gave me a quote of $1,612 for the year. That's with my 43% roadstar discount, 2mil liability, 300 ded. on windshield, replacement etc. This is not a lot more than my 07 Accent I'm currently driving. I explained to her I've seen people quote well over $3,000 for the same vehicle (not sure about their discount). Regardless she said that numbers only ever get that high with high performance cars such as Mustangs and Camaros. At that point I wasn't quite sure whether to laugh or shut up, buy a GC quickly and get it insured. I explained to her that performance, price etc. wise the GC was in the same category as those cars. She then said: "Well it's probably because it's a Hyundai." Again, I wasn't quite sure whether to laugh or feel insulted. I didn't feel like educating her and just thanked her for the info and left.

So I guess the point of this post is to offer some advice and maybe ask a question. First it seems at least some insurance companies have no clue how to set rates for vehicles. It seems they're just throwing darts at a board with random numbers. So IF you are paying a lot more than was quoted to me, particularly if you happen to be in BC, Canada, you may wanna run down to your local BCAA and get a quote. You might be able so safe some serious money. Regardless of where you are, shopping around definitely seems the way to go.

I'm still a little nervous about the quote cause it seems like once they "figure it out" it might go up to "real performance cars" (lol) levels. Has that ever happened to anybody? Have your rates ever gone up significantly because your vehicle was categoriezed differently from one year to the next.

Thanks all!

Its been stated before that its probably because the Genesis is only a few years old and they dont have enough data to give an accurate rate so some insurance company give a basics rates. They cant say for sure that the coupe is a high risk vehicle or if its low risk or somewhere in between. So to be fair they give a basic rate.

This makes perfect sense in my case because when i had my 99 prelude insured it was actually more expensive than my coupe And my coupe is cheaper to insure than my wifes 09 Fit. WTF? Im not complaining though lol

Give it a few years and im sure rates will settle accross the board relative to driving history. Itll probably get more expensive too once they find out it is a high risk vehicle lol

In Canada:

Age: 25
$140/month
$500 deductible, $2M insurance, accident forgiveness, and 24 month new vehicle replacement. (if written off)

No complaints!

I believe $103 to $108 a month, I forget the exact. That's a standard "plates" type policy with a standard $700 deductible. I also pay an extra $250 yearly for a package policy that includes road hazard glass replacement, $2m liability and I believe loss of use coverage (rental car costs), soon to add replacement insurance as well (so if I total it, I get back exactly what I paid for it).

20-years-old, 2 speeding tickets (years ago), no at-fault accidents. Not too bad, I'd say.

I don't have a Coupe, but it didn't seem that much when I got a quote.. Right now I'm paying about 35/mo for the '07 Camry.

I was going to do that. Unfortunately I settled for basic+collision+comprehensive. Thus the $3000/yr bill.

I don't see why going to BCAA will save you any money. Here in Vancouver, there is only 1 insurance company: ICBC. You have to use them for insurance and this is by provincial law. You can buy ICBC insurance at any ICBC agents, but the cost will be the same everywhere! BCAA is just another one of thousands of these agents. Going to some random agent will give you the same price as going to some BCAA agents, because they all get their quotes from the ICBC database.

Can you explain more on how a Vancouverite can save on insurance? I'm the $3000/yr guy you are talking about. I have 15% discount. I know you got a quote for $1612/yr with 43% discount, does that include collision too? At which rate? $300/500/1000? Lastly, which driving category are you? Leisure?

Just turned 25 a few days ago and also up for renewal at the end of the month. The rate from my current TD MM is going down this year from $2176 to $1961 with clean history @ 1mil/1000/1000

any suggestions where i should go to get a better rate?
