1/9/12- Auto show season is here! With the debut of the NA version of the vehicle, we have a new thread that will hopefully be less cluttered than this one. It can be found here: The FINAL Official 2013 Genesis Coupe Thread
12/5/11 mod edit: I took all of the posts after the first official pictures and created a new thread so it's a bit easier to wade through. I'll be going through and cleaning the new thread up as well and moving some stuff around. Since the car has been officially revealed, I'm leaving this post closed. Please continue discussion of the new 2013 Genesis Coupe here: http://www.gencoupe.com/general-disc...re-thread.html -N2OInferno mod edit: pictures added! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Also, if you're reading this thread for the first time or visiting from another corner of the internet, the information below is from 8-31-10, and therefore was speculation a year ago. This is the post where it all started. We still don't have confirmation of which engines or output the car will have. /mod edit - N2O --------------------------------- Hey, Mustang, watch out! Hyundai is preparing a new 5.0 liter V8 engine that will deliver 429 HP. Of course, Hyundai did not say that with the new engine they would want to take on the Mustang, but it wouldn’t be as ridiculous as the race between Mini and Porsche! The output for the new coupe is even bigger than the one from the Mustang GT model that develops a total of 412 HP. The announcement was made by Hyundai in South Korea during a test drive for the new Sonata hybrid and 2.0T. The new 5.0 liter Tau engine is a bored-out, direct-injection version of the 4.6-liter V-8 currently found in the Genesis sedan. Bore increases to 96 mm, an increase of 4, while the stroke stays the same at 87 mm. The result is an estimated output of 429 hp at 6500 rpm and 376 lb-ft at 5000 rpm with an 11.5:1 compression ratio. The new engine will be mated to an eight-speed automatic designed and manufactured by Hyundai. The new engine is rumored to be available for the Genesis Coupe sometime in mid-2011. 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe will get 5.0-liter Tau engine and eight-speed transmission - Top Speed T

Since that article is two months old and no other Korean sources have even vaguely mentioned, I am just going to ignore this. The mid 2011 release date is what really makes the credibility of that article questionable.
Edit: Oh, and someone lock this thread before it becomes 20 pages again. |

ever bother searching around before starting such a thread?
say a few threads below the top of the page? You don't even have to use the search button for this one EDIT: Oops sorry, didn't realize that, that thread was finally off the front page Still search, especial of topics from articles a few months old. It more than likely been talked about. Last edited by AKGC; 08-31-2010 at 09:10 AM. |

You do realize the new Mustang GT will hang with a BMW M3 around a track no problem right? This is even with a solid rear axle. Give Ford some time to sort out a full IRS and the Mustang will be an absolute beast on the track.

Why do these threads keep popping up??!?!?!!?! Nowhere in that article does it say that the engine will be put into the coupe except for the title and the small blurb about rumours for the coupe at the end. THIS ENGINE WILL NOT BE IN THE COUPE. PERIOD. when the car was launched Hyundai said they can't put a V8 in it because the front end is too short. The car would have to be SIGNIFICANTLY modified to pull that off. That is just not going to happen on a 3rd year car. It's not worth the investment.

I went into my dealership today and had a long talk with one of their salesman.
I live in Tampa Area and the Hyundai dealer a few miles away is the largest volume dealer in the nation. We talked about some of the 2011's and he basically said how they were all disappointed there were no 'big' additions to the Coupe and as a result they were seeing less of an interest in them. Pointed out that the only changes were a different lip spoiler and a few other minor changes. For 2012 they expect a performance upgrade for the 2.0T. Mentioned that we should expect to see the biggest changes with the 2.0T. They expect this mainly because the Sonata received a 274 turbo which should translate to a 2012 274 stock turbo on the Hyundai Genesis Coupe. He said anything less will be disappointing and embarrassing for Coupe owners. He mentioned that it was simply talk amongst salesmen at the dealership. I'll definitely be refinancing myself into a 2012 Genesis Coupe 2.0T Track come this time next year if that is the case. Expecting to see any exterior/interior/engine changes? I'm hoping for stock LED and perhaps a meaner looking front. Last edited by GenesisDan; 09-09-2010 at 04:54 PM. |

Id be happy if Hyundia just put better internals in the 2.0T. Make them good to 450 RWHP would pretty much make the ease of modding on this car stupid easy.
As for that Maybe they should do a V8 AWD version as well lol (Then agian who knows) |

I would like to see the GDI engines show up and add dual zone AC and a telescoping steering wheel and I think it is gold. Maybe add cooled seats for the GT if you want to get fancy. I am not expecting AWD until the next coupe model and not the refresh.
