That'll save one mod from needing to be done. I put the T emblem on my tiburon and the winged emblem on my GC.

Why don't they just move all the cheap crap cars over to Kia? Aren't they the same company?

I don't think that'll happen. However if it does, I think it'd be something more along the lines of Toyota/Scion rather then a new Lexus (like the article said). Creating an entire new dealer network and brand is very expensive. Creating a sub-brand costs money too, but not anywhere near as much.

the T symbol actually stands for tuscani, which is the asian market name for the tiburon.

There was an article in Bloomberg news saying that Kia "looks to Hyundai more as an affiliate than it's parent company". To say that Kias are as good as Hyundais would be a stretch IMO, but they definitely feel like they're on the same level. It should be interesting to see if Hyundai relents to this, or if it goes for the jugular and jumps far enough in front of Kia that it will never catch up.

You guys realize that half the stuff the genesis is made up of, has kia branding on it, right?

Don't believe me? take off the spark plug covers or the airbox lid and see what symbols are mold there.

That's entirely possible. So it would make sense for Hyundai to take their brand name as upscale or luxury item; not necessarily it the sense of pricing a sedan at 50K, but defining themselves as the "better" brand. Sorta like Lexus is the luxury item compared to Toyota.

the genesis will become a different brand. A genesis SUV will be made very soon also, eventually hyundai wont have an accent or elantra type car. But turn into a Infiniti and kia will turn into a nissan type of combo

Yeah this isn't the first time I heard about this. Dealer told me about it when I bought the car and it seems pretty smart to me. A high-end version of Hyundai similar to the brand-relationship between Toyota and Lexus. Continue the growing good reputation from Hyundai and maybe improve the quality. Why not? As long as they don't get pricey. :d

If they planned on doing this, why would Hyundai make the GC look like all their other cars? Think people..

It's still about making money. If you create a product that deviates from the norm in a certain way, that will affect the number of people who buy it. By keeping appearances, they're maintaining a link with their current customer base, minimizing risk, while still making it "new and improved" enough to attract new ones and keep their profits in-line with estimates. Don't forget, even one bad quarter of results below forecasts can have a seriously negative effect financially on a company, both in profit and in stock price.

Do Lexus' look like Toyotas? Do Infinitis look like Nissans? Do Acuras look like Hondas? Nope.

Actually, back before the whole radical redesign of body stylings that has gone on through the past decade or so, yes some did have similar appearances physically. Nobody said they had to be identical, but keeping with the same look/style does save costs. The only thing is, will these extra profits be reinvested into meaningful additions/changes to the franchise, or will they be fretted away on useless s***...

yeah, making an off shoot luxo brand with only 3 cars in the fleet (genesis sedan, coupe, and equus) ..... um yeah, not going to happen.

Only reason why toyota, nissan and honda made different luxo branding at the time, was to get around paying so much for the importation tax. Back then, those cars were made in japan and korea (yes korea, some of the heavy machined components were contracted out to be made to meet demand).

Its also part of the reason why mitsubishi and subaru don't have off shoot brands and why in japan, acuras are called hondas and infinities are called nissans.
