Some of you may remember that I was one of the first members here to integrate a car OBD reader system on the coupe awhile back.
For those who don't know or remember, check these links out: Custom Onboard Diagnostics System TEASER LF-A Style Digital Gauges & OBD System INSTALLED [CUSTOM] Complete In-Dash Review - LJ_Gencoupe (WARNING PIC HEAVY!) Back onto topic, I decided to join the Android tablet bandwagon because it is a less PITA when it comes into the wiring and turning the system on and off. The Android tablet can still perform the same functions of the previous OBD system I have plus more. The Android tablet, an Acer A100, has a built-in bluetooth module that connects to the OBD reader and Wifi that tethers to my iPhone for internet connection. I can surf, use the GPS (even though I already have one), email on the go! Obviously don't do that while driving because it IS dangerous! Since I have an aftermarket deck, I managed to connect the audio jack of the tablet to the AV audio input of the deck in the rear. I can listen to any audio outputted by the tablet on the car speakers. The good thing about this is that I don't have any alternator whine whatsoever unlike some other people who was having problems. I would like to personally thank Someguydave for helping me out with the tablet since he had the tablet on before I joined the bandwagon. Anyways less talk, pictures below: Prior to mount ![]() Mounted and powered up ![]() ![]() Demo Video with Call me maybe music video (this music was stuck in my head for MONTHS) and Youtube with Russell Peters Last edited by LJ_Gencoupe; 06-30-2012 at 07:13 PM. |

Next up I have installed in the car is an onboard vehicle GSM/GPRS/GPS tracking system.
![]() In this package, it came with the manual, drivers in the mini-CD, external battery and hardwire DC car charger, and the tracking module. The rectangular shaped object on the bottom right of the picture is the tracking module that is hidden in the vehicle. On the left hand side of that, the item is the hardwire DC charger that is connected to any constant 12V power line in the car for continuous power supply (even when the vehicle is turned off). The way the tracking module works is that it has a standard size sim card input in which you put in a sim card (doesn't matter what wireless carrier) inside. This provides the GPRS/GSM connection. Your car will have its own phone number. The module itself has a GPS receiver in which you can track the tracking module VIA the computer. The software is included in the mini-CD provided. In order to track the device, you have two options, either through the computer or call your car with your cell phone. If you call your car with your cell phone, it will automatically hang up and send you an SMS shown below (obviously some things are crossed out for privacy reasons ![]() So there are two options in which you can configure the way the module will send its data. One is in a raw form and the other in a Google Maps link. In the raw form, it will display the time and date, speed, battery life and signal status, IMEI number (International Mobile Equipment Identification Number) and latitude and longitude coordinates of your tracking module. In this one, I pressed the 'SOS' button on the module and it will show the "help me" in the message. The second form is the Google Maps link. It won't show you any information other than the coordinates of the tracking number. Once you press the link, it'll transfer you to the Google Maps app (in iPhone) and pinpoint where your tracking module is located. If the tracking module lost its GPRS/GSM signal, it will send you coordinates of its last known location before it lost the signal. Now some of you will be concerned that the module will drain the battery continuously. I'm in the works of integrating a vehicle solar panel that will charge and maintain the battery while the car is turned off. Estimated project cost is $50. More to come in the future! Super jealous of your setup, the amount of tech on your console is mindblowing.
Now I'm sorry to hijack the thread but I spent nearly an hour searching on the web. I swear I saw a website selling a Type A bezel + relocator for $65~ but I can't seem to find the site anymore. Does anyone know what site it was or a vendor with comparable pricing? I don't to spend more than $90 for a few pieces of plastic. Type B would be nicer but it's priced way higher. Sorry again! >.<

Power Consumption wise, I connect it to the Power Magic Pro in which it'll run continuously 24/7 until the car's voltage will go down to a certain point and then it will shut off. When it does that, it will ping you the last known location of the car until it turns back on again. For mobile provider, I use 7 Eleven Speakout. They are the only company I know that its load will expire every 365 days. I top up with $25 each year. |
