What's your internet source? Are you using on board mobile data or tethering off your phone?

Nice find! It was only $40 bucks more than the first gen, so I decided to get this and very happy with it.

Oh I see. I just couldn't justify spending twice as much on the 4g model. I am on AT&T's 10gb plan and I don't even use half of it. Funny how they want $15 a month to have a tablet on the account when you can tether for free...

Again, not sure about the first gen nexus, but to save the headache I decided to stick to the OEM charger my second gen came with. Then, I hooked it up to a Black & Decker PI100BB Inverter. Furthermore, I went to AZ and grabbed a universal cigarette lighter socket which I spliced to a blue screen harness (check with multimeter which wires are needed since I don't remember anymore). There's plenty of space to hide everything down there. My battery never goes down and everything seems to work for about 2 weeks now. If you choose to go this route, wrap some electrical tape between the socket and the inverter so it won't disconnect while driving and then some zip ties to secure it somewhere.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I no longer have an OEM radio. I have a kenwood ddx 470 unit, so the blue screen isn't there anymore anyway. By splicing into the existing wiring, I was able to keep the front cigarette lighter intact. I've seen some people pulling it out and just looks fugly driving with a hole in such a visible spot. Yw! That little inverter is pretty amazing for its size.

Reading through this, I really only have one question...how many feet was the AUX ext cable, and did you use it all, less than all, etc?

Thanks

Mine was only a few inches long from radioshack because my ddx470 has a 3.5 female input which is about 6-7" long, so it was just enough to reach the tablet...

5-6 feet should be just enough then. Or, of course, you can just listen to music via bluetooth.

I really don't like the quality of the Bluetooth streaming in this car, though admittedly it's currently via a hacked to death NoteII and not the Nexus.

Thanks. I had 5ft in the cart..seems like it'll do.

You are not lying sir.. Factory radio's BT just blows... That was one of the reasons why I switched. With Kenwood, it's a totally different experience. People in my car think I'm listening to a CD, when it's via BT.

I used the metal bezel and the GPS on my Nexus 7 works perfectly fine: I brought it out on the road last night to confirm, and Torque was all too happy to confirm I had 12 satellites visible, 8 locked, and a precision of 6 m on the GPS signal.

The scarier problem with the metal bezel, of course, is that you're putting a metal object in direct contact with glass. To avoid that, in true hacker form I spaced the tablet from the bracket using soft foam weather stripping. The most laborious part of it was that because the weather stripping was about 1 cm (.4 in) wide, I had to cut it lengthwise with an Exacto knife prior to mounting it along the contact face of the metal bracket.

As a bonus that I suspect the plastic bracket might not have, I can gently slide the tablet in and out of the bracket without causing damage to the tablet -- I've had the bracket and tablet together for a while now without having gotten around to completing the dash install (I'm always anxious about any irreversible changes I make to my vehicle, and going to town with a Dremel is one of them), and every so often I take my tablet out of the bracket to enjoy it as a portable device. This also means that in the unlikely event the tablet is damaged, a new bracket won't be required. =)
wooo.. a local..do u mind meeting up and showing me how your set up looks like. i bought everything and it's half installed...would love to take a look at your set up before i finish mine.
