And also, for an Acer Iconia the power that you ideally want to deliver is 2000mA (2A) so anything over this should charge the tab at an acceptable rate. This might be trickier on the Nexus 7 since it doesn't have a dedicated power socket.

@shaverzbt: I used to use that adapter. i found tho that it's very low quality and when using an aux cable to play music through the tablet you get very bad static while theyre both plugged in at the same time.

@skittle: yes you need an adapter still, how else is the tablet going to communicate to the car lol!
@mgsalvad: you were right on. That charger sucks. I was getting buzzing through my speakers. I'm using the Kensington piece as well. Tried the Duracell inverter too. It buzzed just as much. So for now I'm using a small Belkin to at least have it plugged in. But on the way to the office this morning, it didn't charge at all. It discharged 2%.

So which charger should I get then? At complete loss. Any help is a appreciated. Thanks.

The duracell works pretty good for me and I get no noise at all. I guess these things are hit or miss. Maybe it's the USB cable you're using?

I was using the N7 cable with its wall charger attachment. Should I just plug it into the USB location on the inverter? I didn't try that. Thoughts?

I haven't tried the USB port on the duracell unit myself, it's supposed to be 2.1A though. I am running the same setup as you, duracell, original n7 wall charger, original n7 usb cable, and i get no noise at all. It's worth a shot to use the USB port. Let me know your results!

Can't seem to win here. It charges great now. Kept 100% all morning after driving for 2 hours. But now Automateit won't awaken the tablet when the power is reconnected. Had stopped for 20 minutes to see a client. Got in the car and the screen was black.

This is getting very frustrating.

Im using a Kensington inverter-> stock wall charger with usb. Works great.

Im not too familiar with automateit but my tasker is set to cancel screen time out to never as soon as power is supplied. BUT waits 5 seconds before it does anything else. Works great.

Dont get frustrated ive had my ups and downs with this tablet

I recommend tasker than anything.

Downloaded a plug in called secure settings.

This plugin handles my screen awakenings and app killing.

this hasn't been mentioned, but can you still use the steering wheel to skip to the next song? Or is it at that point only olume control?

ould you do a ideo of the tablet at work, as well with the gps giving instuctions and the song going though the car speaker?

The steering volume controls work. Also, when using Google Maps or other like TomTom, the music level is lowered to "your girl" can direct you where to go. It's veyr cool, much like a stock installed unit. Not sure about skipping a song. Haven't tried it yet.

The steering wheel will do volume control only, the only thing that will give you full steering wheel control is the actual iPod USB interface. Bluetooth and Aux connections limit you to volume only.

I can try and do a video whenever I have the time this week, maybe today after work.

The guys in the other thread ( the really long one ) said Tasker was a total pain in the ass, and people had greater success with AutomateIt. I got both, but found AutomateIt was easier to configure so i stuck with that.

My AutomateIt works properly for the most part, but use whatever gets the job done for you!

I changed over to Tasker from Automateit. To many bugs with Automateit. Half the time the Nexus didn't wake with power or turn off.
Tasker has been great. No problems yet.

I want to buy the UNAVI from PowerAxel. What is the pros and cons versus the tablet install. Mainly I want the UNAVI for warranty and because it does the digital gauge read outs.
