So hey, if you use Torque, recommend a good setup for it. How do you have yours configured?

Hey thanks for the DIY thread on this install. Just did mine today and love it. I didnt root it or nothing crazy like that. I am using the ELM 327 with DashCommand with the Gen 2.0T skin. (looks sick) Just had a few questions.

With Automateit is there a trigger and rule to just completely shut off the tablet when power is disconnected? All the rules you recommended are now set but it just dims the screen and shuts all data off like airplane mode would do.

1 more thing!!! If you don't mind paying $10 a month download spotify. There is a free version also for a trial. Unlimited music you can download to the tablet in playlists and listen to offline once downloaded. I sit in my driveway and update the music then download it and listen for hours with data off. Just a thought. Thanks again for the write up! Install was just shy of 4 hours for me.

Now onto AEM CAI and FMIC. It's like a disease I tell ya

I don't know if AutomateIt has an option to kill power to the whole tablet. I don't think you would want to do that, it would mean you have to wait for the tablet to boot up every single time the car is turned on. It would mean shutting down, and repowering the tablet if you are going from using the tablet with the key in the ON position, to starting the car. You would also have to root the tablet and do the hack I posted earlier that automatically turns on the tablet when it senses AC power- otherwise you have no way to reach the power button to turn the tablet on, unless you drill an access hole above the power button.

I definitely don't recommend going that route. I think it would drive you nuts!

I have my automateit now set up to
( power down )
Kill wifi
kill bluetooth
kill gps
kill mobile data
kill dash command
kill spotify
kill google maps
kill sygic gps
Dim screen
turn off screen

I had to mess around with timing delays to get all of that working properly.

(power up )
set screen brightness to 50%
enable gps

Then I turn on bluetooth, and mobile data manually only when needed.

I've been a Spotify premium user since it came out in the USA. I do use the offline playlists quite often!!

Yea Spotify is the best I think music app and as far as automateit goes I have it set to turn bluetooth and everything else on when powered up but I can't figure out the rules and triggers to get it to kill specific apps like dashcommand and spotify when power disconnected. I'm not to skilled software/tablet wise. If you could help me a lil more that be great, if not I do appreciate it

Unfortunately Android isn't quite as "open" as many people believe it to be. Frankly when it's not rooted, it's almost just as locked down as iOS. You NEED to root the tablet in order to gain access to the higher functions of AutomateIt or Tasker- Airplane mode, kill GPS, kill specific apps, etc- those options won't even show up until you have rooted and unlocked the tablet.

I used the top of a ballpoint pen to act as a button to turn on and off the tablet using the power switch (I am using an Acer A100 and not a Nexus). I have automateit set up on a delay to turn the tablet off after 8 hours of non-use. That way the tablet doesn't shut down each time I shut off the engine (it just goes to sleep), but it will shut down after a long period to conserve battery power. In order to enable to Automateit to shut the tablet down, it has to be rooted and Automateit needs to be designated as a SuperUser.

You could use any 3.5mm audio cable, but the ground loop isolator cable will eliminate any noise that might pop up ( alternator whine, etc ). Try it and let us know if it works without introducing any noise into the audio.

If you are having GPS issues, install the tablet upside down. It doesn't make any functional difference, since the screen rotates anyway. Type B bezel with a Nexus 7 v1.

I got a lot better GPS lock with just flipping it over. I don't know why, it just works better. It went from 1-2 satellites at 50% to locking on successfully every time (sometimes with a bit of a wait.)

I will still be using the bracket I got from necco, but this works just fine for me in the meantime.

Some people flip their tablet clockwise some counter clock wise. How is yours installed? If you have de tablet in portrait mode, do you go clockwise or counter clockwise?

Perhaps wrap the metal in electrical tape. They may buffer the metal disturbance from the gps sensor. It's just a thought.

Why don't you find a local plexi cutting place, and have them make you some of these plexi brackets? that's what Necco did..
