Default aftermarket amplifier on stock sub or aftermarket 8" sub

I have an aftermarket amp sitting around and was wondering if it was worth it to hook it up to the stock sub or maybe an aftermarket 8" sub that will fit in the stock location.

Has anyone tried either of these options? Does it make much difference over the stock sub and amp?

I just had an 8 inch sub (in it's own box) mounted under the rear deck with an aftermarket amp and it hits nice. Both the sub and amp are digital design and I was going for an added bass nothing overpowering, what I got was a little more then expected so I just keep the gain down a bit. Comming from an SUV (a lot of trunk room) with three tens and 1000 watts I was pleased with the single eight. Hooked into the high outputs you will not get a LOW thumping bass but it does the job.

Thanks, I think thats the type of addition I'm Looking for.

Once I get some time, I'm going to try an amp on the stock sub first depending on how it looks. I'll keep u posted.

Any pics of your setup?

Not yet, but there isn't much to see. The amp is mounted to the back of the seat (easier to tune and hide) and the sub box is mounted to the rear deck you can only see a box. I guess the pics would be good for showing the sub did not take up much room, but that is about all.

The first pic is clear and shows a clean install, the second gives you an idea of the space the box takes up. I still have a good amount of space in the trunk.
The box is ported.

Damn that is a big box for one 8". How did you attach it? Did you change anything on the inside of the car? How did you wire into the factory harness. How did you bypass the factory amp. Sorry for all the questions. I was wanting to do this to my coupe and was curious how to wire to a factory setup.

There is an adapter for the high inputs/rca connection, the box is attached to the rear deck with angle iron, the trunk light was removed (you may be able to relocate I did not care), and the pull handle for the rear seat was moved slightly to the right (in the pic you can see the original mounting point for the handle. The factory amp was not removed it still runs all the other speakers----that will soon change.

I am sure the install would not be difficult but for time reasons I had it done by a local shop.

The reason the box is large is because the Digital Design 8 has a magnet the size of a basketball and needs air space. I have to adjust the box away from the shelf more because the sub keeps slamming into the shelf.

that install looks great, I bet it sounds awsome too. I wonder if its possible to shoehorn a 8" W7 into the stock spot...
I think I have a new winter project.

Instead of trying to stuff it, put the sub in a box and mount it under the deck with the sub facing the hole in the deck.

It's possible but it will hang pretty far (7"+ with box) down into the middle of the trunk. IMO, the W7s are nice, but if you are spending that much money why not get something that will perform better than an 8"?
