Default Stock Navi Backup camera

So i went to my local shop called avenue sound where they specialize on installing backup cameras.. the guy told me their is a company that he knows of that he has used for many years and said he has wired many backup cameras to the stock navis.. porsches, Bmw's, mercedes, and many other cars that dont have any input ports in the stock navi.. He told me thier called T harness which puts a module behind the stock navi and allows a reverse camera to work with it. i asked him for the company name and he just went on and told me that i could bring it in and have it done. so i was googling this morning and came across this...i dont know if this will help in anyway but this guy was confident that he could hook up a backup camera to my track gencoupe with the stock navi. opinions to start?

Interesting... They show a Genesis Sedan in their install directions, and they say to activate the camera system you hold the voice command button down for 3 seconds. I wonder if it will work with our coupes and also wonder if there is another way to activate it (like by putting the car in reverse) instead of manually engaging/disengaging it.

ours doesn't have fiberoptic anything.

Cheaper/better to just get an aftermarket nav.

Hey Dmitri good find man! This sparks some ideas. I'll be looking into doing this myself if and when the deal for my new '11 3.8 track is completed... Unfortunately I gotta get rid of my uNavi and replace it with the stock nav and not having the inputs is a bummer.

To get the camera to pop up on your screen when putting the car in reverse, you have to tap into the reverse lights inside the trunk.

Did I just double post??

Subscribed to this thread.....

No sense in owning a stock navi and getting the Unavi. Just seems wasteful if you can get your stock unit upgraded... Someone will crack this one day I know it.

Its been done plenty of times before for other cars... Now its only a matter of time for gen coupes.

I understand tapping into the reverse light to get the camera to work, but I'm still wondering how you trigger the nav system to display the video from the reverse camera when you put the car in reverse.

Based on what I read the aftermarket system for the sedan needs the driver to hold down the voice command button for 3 seconds to activate the camera on the display.

yea i hope we dont just sit here and talk about it.. hopefully someone can actually work on this and make something happen for us with the stock navi.. im only saying because there are a few other threads on this that have gotten nowhere along with many other topics that seem to die out after a while (w.o going off topic the 3.8 tune handheld module).. it would be nice to start seeing results

Yes this would be amazing!!! I would love to have this working.. There has to be someone who is close to where they sell such a camera to try it out.. Just power the camera up manually and see if the Stock Navi picks it up.

well I emailed the makers of Navtool and asked if they had any plans to make something for our cars. I saw they are located in Brooklyn and offered them my car as a testing unit

I was watching top gear and this idea struck me.

Amazon.com: Parrot AR.Drone Quadricopter Controlled by iPhone/iPod touch/iPad (Orange/Blue): Electronics Amazon.com: Parrot AR.Drone Quadricopter Controlled by iPhone/iPod touch/iPad (Orange/Blue): Electronics
Amazon (Links)Amazon (Links)

There should be something else on the market that is similar to this thing, wireless streaming to a cellphone. Not as convenient as having it display on the navi but it would be awesome regardless lol
