is anyone running a samsung galaxy tablet in thier genesis? I am debating on swapping my aftermarket headunit back to stock and just running a tablet, but I can't decide between the acer or the samsung. On paper the samsung looks better but can the samsung operate the normal home screens sideways instead of up and down. The reason I ask is because it will be installed sideways in the coupe. I have owned a couple samsung and android powered devices and the home screens are only orientated up and down and will not change if you turn the phone sideways. is this diferent with the updated systems?
Also what other accesories do you reccomend? obviously power cord, and audio out. I tried searching but could not find what I was looking for. Help, tips, or a DIY would be awesome. Also where is the best deal on the lcd relocate and the type b bezel?

Why not do both? I did and I like it. I'm running the evo 4g view from sprint, and at the bottom portion under the head unit I did a custom gauge pod. I have the rspec so I don't have push button :-)

Yeah get a tablet from Verizon, sprint,at&t. you get data, Bluetooth for torque app, GPS, and you can run Pandora radio, play music files, or whatever. I even made a external button to turn it off!

I forgot that if you keep aftermarket head unit you can run 3.5mm Jack to RCA splutter and plug it in the back of your headunit for sound!

How ironic, I woke up this morning thinking the same thing, "will a Galaxy Tab fit and work?" lol!
I hear what your saying about the menus only being oriented "portrait" style, I don't think they can be adjusted to run "landscape". I was wondering if there was a way to use a task manager (automator app of some kind) to automatically turn a tablet on/off when you turn the car on/off. I forget if the powered USB in the car is still powered when the car is off, or if it stays on. Anyways, just thinking out loud. |

honestly looking for a straight tablet with wifi. I dont really need the 3g or 4g. If I want I can run it off my phone though. I'm looking specifically at the acer and the samsung galaxy 7.0 tabs. you can set them up to turn off when there is no powe cord charging (igntion on/off with cig lighter) so no external button.
I want to run the stock headunit, bc my headunit and a tablet together to me is overkill. Another reason for a wifi tablet is no extra bill a month. I can just use my phone to do everything the tablets do its just super small screen. My phone has almost better equipment then the acer tablet.

the landscape issue is the only thing holding me back from the samsung right now unless I can get confirmation that the homescreens can be laid out in landscape style..... I was going to pick it up on the way home if I get some better info. I may also just go and play with one for a bit too.

how do u get that useless blue screen off?
and, where can you get a bezel to custom fit one of the android tablets? i'd just love to run torque and play some music from it. also, is the tablet easily removable so i can take home to sync and remove to prevent theft?

I was going to say something but then i realized you must have NAVI right? For non NAVI owners, they usually relocate the blue screen to the spot in front of the shifter. That way you can still see your HVAC and all those other controls.
Not sure about owners with NAVI though. |

Go with the Acer. After a LOT of tweaking..mine works exactly the way I want it to. The only exception is the autodimming once I got a car starter.

A couple of apps to look into are orientation control and power manager. Check em out! Also use a fuse tap (add a circuit) and hook it up to either 10amp fog light fuse (constant power)

The amount of power it takes to charge a tablet is no more than a phone. There's not really enough power drawn to cause an issue unless your battery is on its way out. I found that if your tablet is on a switched power source the tablet will be dead when you get in your car the next day needing to be turned on after it has shut down due to tablet battery drain. A button like the one I made is a must because you would have to pull the tablet out every time it dies to turn it on and if you have it on constant power you have to be able to turn the screen on/off and have a shutdown/startup button. there is no app to my knowledge that will turn the tablet on or off with a activated power source thus requiring a custom button.

I actually called plx the maker of the kiwi Bluetooth adapter and they said that there is not much of a difference that its more of the tablet speed. Even if you have the fastest tablet it still will have response lag.
