Not that its components are much different, but QA is definitely an issue with that stuff. For instance, you can buy iPod cables from Hong Kong for $2, which is 1/10 the cost of one from Apple. But about 25% of them are DOA, and another 25% die within a month. The other 50% are probably every bit as good as their Apple counterparts, but I just don't trust them.

And look at it this way. You're spending money on other quality parts. In the OP's case, a very nice Alpine Type R sub and a well known, highly rated amp. But both are fed by the signal from the LOC. I just don't think that's where you really want to skimp.

However, as long as it's where you can get to it when you want without having to rip out interior panels, etc., I guess it doesn't hurt to try. You can always just replace it later if you feel like your SQ is suffering. And in the end, you gotta do what you gotta do financially.

Good luck. Still wish I could hear your setup, OP!

thanks for the input! im not a big sound guy. i just want a little more bass thats all. Something simple like this. I already have the amp and sub from previous cars. ill just stop by ghetto walmart and look for this.

OR like I said the first time, any stereo shop will have them for under $20 if you dont want to go to walmart. Close to a Best Buy? They have them for $17, audio express? Custom Sounds? Ultimate Electronics? Tweeter? Reliable Audio? SoundWavez?

buy one of those and hook it to a fuse that is only on when the key is on. dont use more than a 10A fuse for the remote wire.

Ok. Is your amp powering up? Should be a power-on light on it somewhere. Which amp is it? To be clear, you have 0 sound, or you have very low sound? As in, are the woofers making any noise at all?

You need to hook Left + and Right + to the + of your factory speaker, and Left - and right - to the - of your factory speaker.

I bought the exact same sub as you and will be installing it on Friday....Couple noob questions...

Why did you go with a spacer for the sub? How did you secure the spacer to the actual car? If you used screws, what kind of screws did you use?

What kind of screws did you use to secure your amp? I'm thinking of doing the exact same thing you did with my rockford.

Any help would be great!

Thanks

spacer had to be used so the sub would be even with the back tray otherwise it will be sitting half an inch below it . its bolted with the stock screws that hold the hole cover.

the amp is mounted with 10-32 screws 2" long you can get them at any hardwear store

Track:

Also you tapped off the sub for the LOC?

I assume you drilled holes in the shelf to feed the sub wires through? I know if looks clean but why, you could of just wired to the amp next to it?

Also, like I said a bad idea to have an amp upside down, unless it is spec'ed for it, some brands allow multi positions, I would double check with RF on that one.

If it is not rated for it, I would get some L brackets and some MDF cover with black vinyl or carpet build a shelf under the rear deck and put the amp upright, you get short L brackets to make it close to the shelf.

I made my set up to look how I wanted if you want to wire it differently do it it's your choice

The Rockford amp can be mounted however you want instruction manual states it can be inverted/ upside down

Have had this for close to a month and no problems. No over heating it all runs like a champ

For your model is there a sub pre wired, or you tapped off the rear speakers?
