Default Hmm....

If this works like I think it does, it sounds to me like you can play an iPod through your stereo still, but you'll lose the ability to control it from the car.

(I'm guessing the actual "brains" that allow communicating with the iPod to control changing of tracks, etc. used to happen inside the factory stereo head-unit, via its connection with the USB port in the center console. But after modding things, it sounds like the touch-screen GPS unit is going to be attached to that USB port instead? So it will let you plug a memory stick into the USB port in the center console and play MP3s off of it, but it isn't going to have the software in it to know how to put the iPod in "car mode" and communicate with it directly.)

That means, you'd have to play the iPod through your stereo by just connecting the 1/8" audio plug to its headphone jack, and the other end into the 1/8" plug in the center console, right next to the USB port. Then you'd have to control what played from the iPod itself, but the audio would still go through the stereo, when things are set to that mode.

If, indeed, that's how this is wired up ... I'm not real thrilled about it. Seems to lack the level of integration I was hoping for. But I can also see how for most people, it'd be an acceptable loss, vs. what's gained. (EG. Why would you really NEED the iPod control if you can attach a 32GB memory stick or something and play music from it, complete with touch-screen controls on the dash and a display that reads off the full title of each track better than the original display did for the iPod, anyway?)

i don't know how PA installed this on the car.. but for me I used audio cable to hook up "AUX out" from the unit to "Aux in" in the car. There is extra cable but you would still have the Ipod functionality and Aux in. And whenever you wanna watch or listen from the Navi unit, just plug in the cable and select Aux from the car audio.

Ok, PowerAxel I won't blame you if you don't want to release the info but did you use a ELM-327 based chip to interface with the steering wheel controls, HVAC, stereo, etc??

Or if you could tell me what standard Hyundai used (CAN, ISO)? Any info would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

pretty nice vid, so arvin can you clarify more about the VID thats sold separately? Will it be a wireless receiver that plugs into the OBDII like what CrookedH and TexasGenesis were referring to earlier in the thread.

nice video but my question still remains...

If I am using navigation am i forced to manually exit it and then switch to the "trip" to browse files on lets say my ipod?

On that same note... if i am using navigation and someone calls when using bluetooth... caller id will not work correct??? unless i have the unit sitting on the trip screen which also means it is not using any navigation features, right?

wouldn't it say "call from name/number" anyway? My car does..... -_-

As for the manual switching question i'm curious of that myself. will you still be able to browse files or switch between songs while using Navi? Whats the extent of tasking for this unit? Will there be a lot of lag time that we'll encounter if we do too many things at once?

I would of like the buttons to be along the left side. Reaching all the way across the screen to hit exit, can be a bit of a stretch for some.

I don't like the initial "splash" sound that it makes on the main menu. I had this craptastic ebay video player/camera that makes the same sound lol. Well, thats just my preference.

Wonder if theres any features for video playback. I could just plug a usb wireless hub (yes such a thing exists) in the glove box and then playback from my ipod or HDD

sweet. nice vid. hopefully you guys can get the ipod interface to display on the screen soon. browsing via file names would be pretty hard to do. especially trying to just play genres/playlists/etc etc.

anyway thanks for the vid. gui looks nice too.

cheers

Any solution for those of us who have factory Nav and would just like to replace the useless torque/mpg screen with a more useful information-temps, pressures, b/u camera-while keeping the emergency flasher and passenger airbag indicator in place?
