I know these are Sirius rates... but they may or may not affect XM rates. This is directly from my rep from Sirius (And I had to piece it together from the PDF file, too lazy to upload and convert to jpeg):

Radio is free, and the only difference is XM / Sirius is commercial free (besides how a signal is sent). Car manufactures provide everythign else for you, the only thing XM / Sirius would provide is a satelite.

So for the price of free, I can do the samethings as XM or Sirius, with even more power especially through Pandora.

Seeing as I will likely plug my Blackberry into the USB slot for songs off it's SD card as well as charge it, I'm not going out of my way. I did it with my iPhone all the time.

The way I could only justify $15 ($6 if you twist arms) is do I need it? Not really...if something is free can I justify the price? of course, especially if you are performing the same function. You don't make money by throwing it away.

***Hyundai or someone else should pay the lifetime fee in the chart Lauren posted. Possibly something I should have negotiated when I bought the car 'throw in free XM / Sirius in the price'. Consumers use to run businesses, too bad we have become slaves to commercial operations.

XM/Sirius also has games live, NHL, NBA, NFL, etc.. Howard Stern, talk shows, etc... If your just looking to listen to specific music genre, then sure hooking the phone up with Pandora to the car is fine. But if you have to do all your music controls through the phone, plug it in, unplug it everytime you get in/out of the car.

XM/Sirius is a convienance factor, and much more functionality. Why should Hyundai pay for it? They made the car XM ready, because XM paid Hyundai probably a ton of money. Hyundai isn't giving the 3 month trial, XM is. I just can't fathom why people think XM should be a free service. You can pretty much get XM for like $4 a month, very cheap for the functionality and convienace provided. I can pay that with the change I find under my couch.

I'll just wait for the phone calls. The longest drive I have during the week is my drive back from boxing class. Which is like 30min because of traffic. Other than that I drive 5min to get to work every day.

O.O I also just got my $50 hyundai gift card yesterday. I was not expecting that. very nice gesture.

For me XM they gave 6 months free... screw up with the the XM Nav. When I finally hit them up I will push them for $50 per year. I can live without it...so it's a little money or none. Think of it... they are sending out the signal... no real extra costs to them. Their entire business model is flawed, they know it and their days are numbered I am guessing. So... take it to them I say.

Ask to speak to an English speaking manager. It might sound rude, but it works. Your Indian-speaking reps can't actually do anything for you. Plus they irritate the crap out of me since most of them don't know wtf they are doing anyway. It gets real old after a while.

I would call back til you get the results you want. Im sure they make money off what they sell you. Some just want more sales instead of just a few big sales.

Do you and Rudy actually work for a living?

So having no income from commercials and sending up satellites is cheap is it? What planet are you guys on? That's like saying let me sit on the plane as it was flying that way anyway, if everyone got on for free it wouldn't be flying anywhere...

$20/5 months - sweet spot for me - no royalty :-)

EDIT: $14. no idea how I got that

If you already have XM and are trying to re-up your subscription, I think your best bet is to go right to the cancellation department. Those are the U.S. based guys and they seem more likely to take care of you. Be nice and polite, shoot the **** with them over the phone, and just say something along the lines of, "I can't fit the normal price into my monthly budget," and they should offer you something better. When they ask you to do a survey afterwards, just do it and take care of the guy who gave you a good deal. My 2 cents.

I need to start paying attention to details with XM! After my trial subscription ran out, I renewed for 3 months. I didn't pay attention to the cost, and didn't look at my credit card statements carefully enough. I checked today and found they were charging me $24 per MONTH!.

Today I got a bill for a 3-year subscription. It kicked in automatically after my 3-month subscription ran out. 3 years for $402!! Over $11/month. Plus I had to pay the entire $402 in 5 monthly payments, so I would have been paying 2 1/2 years in advance.

Last week I re-activated a Sky-Fi model at $20 for 5 months, so this 3-year price seemed way out of line. I called and said I wanted to cancel. They offered me 1 year at $88. I took it. I suppose I could have saved a few dollars a month if I had canceled completely and had them try and lure me back with better offers, but for a couple of dollars, I figured it wasn't worth the hassle.

Right after I got my GC they offered me three more months for $26 and change so I took that. Well, I just got a renewal notice in the mail today and for three years it will cost me $86 and change! I think that's pretty damn good sooo I'maaaa gonna take it.

I still haven't decided if I want to pay for XM or not, I'm not a big fan of their music stations and I hate talk radio of any kind. Plus, my 120gb iPod that stays in my car permanently has my entire music collection. So, I am thinking XM is a waste of my time.

Herbtea

Is that $86 per year? That was the amount of my bill, but it was the first of 5 monthly payments to cover the 3-year period--so it was actually over $400 for 3 years.

I guess if you don't like any of their programming you shouldn't get it. The price that I got is ridiculously cheap and I like Alt nation, Lithium, and a few of their techno channels. So, the $4 or whatever a month which is the equivalent of packing my lunch once a month is worthwhile.

My subscription expired about 2 weeks ago, and no phone calls yet. Letting them come to me to renew, then time to negotiate!
