Greetings Genesis Fans. I've recently started lurking this forum because I THINK I might be in the market for a new car and the Genesis really grabbed my attention when the concept first came around. I was hoping I could get some input on my decision so I know I'm not crazy.
First and foremost. I've had my STI for a little over 2 years. It's pretty well modded with a 20G and all the supporting mods. I love a lot of things about my car but at the same time theres a lot of things I don't like (or need). I'm a big modification enthusiast and to be 100% honest I like modding more than I've ever liked any kind of racing. I've never tracked my car nor do I street race. The main things that my STI is just killing me with lately is gas mileage and ride quality. I drive 700+ miles a week and at $40 bucks a fill up every other day it's getting old and it's getting old fast. The ride quality is of course the pseudo rally suspension and the Subaru interior is an uncomfortable mess of mismatched colors. At the time I bought it I bought it for the power but as I get a bit older I get tired of getting my fillings rattled out on my daily drive. I live in sunny California so AWD for me is kind of pointless as I've driven in the snow all of zero times. I've taken my car off roading several times but even that has become tedious and repetetive. It's fun but it takes such a toll on my car and that in turn will take a toll on my wallet. I'm excited at the prospect of owning a RWD car because it's a good compromise of the grip of AWD and none of the lameness that comes with FWD cars. So my conundrum is that I own my STI. Bought and paid for but it is of course starting to age and rack up miles. I'm at 55k miles at the moment and I'm averaging around 2800 miles a month. The 2.0T Genesis has really caught my eye as an amazing platform to do what I love to do best and that is modify cars. My STI is currently at 301/313tq ( stock 220/220 heartbreaker dyno ) so I know I'd be stepping down pretty good in power (at first) but I think all the other amenities that the GC comes with will make up for that until I can catch it up in the power race.So what would you do? Keep the STI? Do more work to it? or take a step in a whole different direction with the GC? ![]() Last edited by K-Gen; 11-24-2009 at 11:36 PM.. |

Being crazy about cars, I'm always wanting to try something new. If you're asking the question, maybe you really do want to try something new and step out of the box.
I've always love the STIs but the Genesis is just as badass haha. I'd say hang up the STI and venture off the path. Go for something new... if your STI is around 301hp, you'll have no problem hitting that with a 2.0T and an engine full of speed making mods. You can be one of the people to test the limits of the Theta. BUY A GENESIS, you won't regret it down the road. BTW, welcome to the forum.

If you're in SoCal, on Dec 13th we're having a little end of the year meet. I'm sure one of the guys with a modified 2.0T will let you test drive or at least a ride in their car.
It's still in the works, I think, but keep an eye on THIS thread.

Cool thanks for the info. I always try and do different things with my cars
![]() My first car was a 2002 Saturn SC2 with a 75 shot of nitrous and full bolt ons. No one ever saw that coming. I then stepped into forced induction with a 2004 Saturn Ion Redline. No FWD should have more than 250 HP IMO. Then onto the STI which has been my biggest favorite so far. My car is extremely fast despite what my numbers say and is closer to a 360+WHP car on a dynojet but I'm no dyno racer (though I am a number chaser :P) So far my list is relatively simple No FWD No N/A No silver (3 silver cars in a row) No less than 200 HP stock I'm just terrified that I'm gonna like it at first but ultimately crave the raw power of my STI. Unfortunately I'm not in SoCal. Sacramento here Have never seen a Genesis in person. |

Eh.... it's only like a 7 hour(?) drive. Should be like 15min in an STI though heh.
I'm not sure who's up in NorCal but there are a few up that way, I think. Quote:

Well I test drove one. I'm ... I dunno how I felt about it.
I'll have to sleep on it definitely I liked a lot of things... but I was not feeling the power. How much does this car weigh? Edit... I really think I need another test drive. Last edited by K-Gen; 11-20-2009 at 10:16 PM.. |

Coming from a modified Evo (330awhp) you might be better off test driving the V6. If you are serious about modding then of course the 2.0T is a better choice for you.

I'm rolling around in a modded WRX and am in the same boat. Today im finishing returning her to stock and will be going back to the dealer to order my nord gray 2.0T track. Yeah its slow. Very slow in comparison. But the driving dynamics and the amenities more than make up for it. Remember you probably won't get the brutal acceleration your used to, but some say being able to drive a slow car fast is more fun than driving a fast car slow.

I own a 2.0T that has been modded, its a lot of fun.
I am in the process of getting a dyno done but it will be in the 270-300 WHP range. If you are worried about power.....start with the V6 Genesis. there are supercharger and turbo kits coming out for them. The v6 is starting to show a lot of promise for tuners as well. What I like about the Genesis (no matter what engine) is that it is a head turner. I constantly have people who drive high end cars asking me about my ride. I never had that when I had a modded Audi A4. The genesis is something new and people are noticing it. |

I don't know I think I need to see it and test drive it during the day time. I did like it but I missed that brutal neck snap my STI gives me. I know it has the potential to be fast but ... gah I just don't know! |

And if money is a issue i would suggest getting a R-Spec. 3,315 lbs/220hp/223trq and RWD, LSD,Brembo,TTSuspension and beautiful 19 inch euroflange gunmetal wheels all for $23,750. I saw one in person and its sexy for those guys that don't like the track spoiler.

Well the car I test drove was a Track edition. Money isn't such a huge issue but it is a factor of course. I don't think I could cope with an RSpec with the amount of highway driving I do cruise control is a must.

Neck snap, you mean like from a standing start?
If so, you're just not going to get that without AWD. ![]() Well, unless you have an asston of power and slicks on the rear. Five or six hundred should do. ![]() I say go drive it again. Take a 3.8 out so you can see what it'd feel like once you've modded a 2.0 (if that's the route you want to go).

The clutch was soft but I did like the responsiveness of the gear shifter. Reminded me a lot of my car ![]() |

I test drove the White 2.0T Track at Roseville Hyundai last night. I liked everything about it but the initial power. I know for a fact I could make that car into a beast but that is such a great warranty to be voiding. My warranty on my STI was damn near up when I started getting heavy into the mods. |
