So I'm about to install a forge bov on a 2011 in the stock location and I'm curious if its a good idea to remove and block the recirculation hose since this BOV vents to atmosphere? If so, what's the best way to block it off? Seems like putting a plastic cap on something in that cramped hot area wouldn't be the best idea. I searched and could only find related info on the 2013 model, recirc is higher away from the turbo

Think we can get the haltech elite to work on our cars? Mainly the 3.8 platform. Since it says it's a universal drive by wire ecu, if we find our wiring diagram to match what the ecu needs, would it work?

Sorry I missed your post. The answer would depend on whether or not Haltech will provide the necessary equipment. Since it's just an announcement right now and no specific platforms have been named for support, my guess is that the Platinum Pro folks (that includes us) would be included. That said, this might be a better question for Adam over at Haltech.

My turn :P So..at what point does a High-flow cat start to become a restriction? 200 cell. Namely the Depo one in their downpipe if that helps any.

First off... a high flow cat really doesn't do anything for you. You cannot pass an emissions test with any of the high flow cats on the market for our cars... so unless you are interested in saving the environment (in which case you bought the wrong car), you are really wasting your money on a high flow cat. Most tuners recommend when you pass the 300 whp mark you really need to delete all the cats in your exhaust system to maintain adequate flow.

Hey guys. I'm new to this forum. I'm trying to get into a 2014 2.0 r spec m/t. I want something that is going to get me good gas mileage though. I was wondering if any of you had some real life numbers? Also, do you guys use premium or regular since online it says you can use both.
Thanks

You can expect 22-24 MPG in mixed driving (provided you aren't driving with your foot in the turbo all the time).

Hi guys I'm very new to this forum and really don't know that much about modding at all. I can't seem to find a straight answer to this question anywhere so I thought I'd ask on here. I have a 2010 3.8L Grand touring. I want my car to be faster and was wondering if a turbo or a supercharger would be best for this car. Also, does anyone have anything good to say about the turbo kit from turbokits.com? I can't seem to find any reviews. Thanks in advance.

We've had good results with turbos. There has been a few superchargers installed as well; however, most of the kits are way more expensive and the top end is limited.

Turbo kits from Turbokits are probably the most complete turbo kits out there for the 3.8. The nice thing about the kits they offer is that they consist of quality parts that have been field tested and the results are quite predictable. They are a very good end to end solution for adding a turbo to the 3.8.

With all that said, you can probably expect to drop about $8-$12K going the forced induction route when you add in all of the supporting bolt ons for that turbo kit. If you don't do most of the work yourself, you can add labor on top of that figure. This will get you a 6-8 psi boost which has been demonstrated safe on the 3.8. If you want higher boost levels you are going to have to rebuild the internals on your engine which can get you into the $16-$20K range depending on how much work you can do yourself and how much you are going to have to depend on someone else to do.

No offense, but if you don't know anything about modding and just want power, I wouldn't put any forced induction setups on your car, until you know how they work, and the risks you are taking adding force induction to your car. Not knowing what to look for, keeping up with maintenance, etc... You'll be out of a motor really quick.

To an extent, I might agree. We have a number of members who have done FI mods on 3.8s who have little or no mechanical knowledge of what makes FI work. One that comes to mind immediately is a gentleman local to me who had a TurboXS turbo kit installed by a local performance shop here in Alabama. The performance shop handled all the communication with TurboXS to deliver to this very nice gentleman an award winning (yes.. he has actually won a few competitions with this car since it has been built) car that is quite reliable and is pushing 18 PSI on a built block. It takes very little knowledge to feed and care for an FI car versus any other type of car, especially if you have professional help on the build.

p.s. The rules of this thread are quite simple... just answer the question. You can critique someone's choices or motivations on any other thread on this forum, but this thread is specifically set up to allow folks to get real answers to their questions without being confronted and questioned (unless the question is steered towards ensuring that the poster gets the best answer s/he can get). Thanks for your help and contributions.
