Default New 3.8 GT w/nav

I signed a 3 year lease on a 2010 Genesis Coupe 3.8 GT. I've been negotiating possible lease and purchase options with the dealer for a week. Finally got all the numbers where I wanted them today. I traded in my 2005 PT Cruiser Touring convertible that I've had for almost 5 years to do it. I really love this car.

Default Congrats!

I was exploring the idea of a lease when I got mine, but for me, the financials just didn't work out.

That has to be a big jump in performance over the PT Cruiser. I used to work for a guy who used PT Cruisers as his official "company vehicles" and they had a lot of good things about them -- but man, they lacked power!

I think you're gonna love the car, but I can already tell you, it has a few downsides too. (Better to be forewarned than get disappointed when you discover them as you go, i think.)

1. Suspension could definitely be better. I never did get to drive the track model to compare it, but my 3.8GT tends to "bottom out" its shocks real easily if you, say, cross a railroad track too quickly, or hit a section of bad road. It need more "travel" in a bad way. Some of the guys in this forum have been developing solutions (like Turnin' Concepts), but it'll take time for them to get the right people mass producing the right parts.

2. Hyundai apparently still hasn't resolved a "glitch" with the computer in the car where the transmission "freaks out" if you start the car and shift it into gear too quickly (like immediately after pressing the ignition button). When this happens, you'll know because the "traction control off" light illuminates and you can't turn it off, and you can't change gears if you put it in manual shifting mode. It stays locked up in 2nd. gear and has no power pulling away from a stop. Only work-around I found is to just shut it off and start it again.

But otherwise? It's a really nice vehicle. I've owned mine for just over 1 year now (bought one of the first), and I have no regrets.

Thanks for the heads up. Every car has its issues. It's good to be informed about some of this one's in advance. I only put about 20 miles on it this afternoon, but I don't mind the stiffer ride.

The PT definitely couldn't compete with the Genesis for raw power, but the turbo engines on the PT weren't bad. The base engine seriously lacked power. I had the mid level 2.4t that had 180hp. My wife has the PT GT in the hardtop rather than the 'vert. That one's got 220HP. It's the same engine as mine, but with bigger boost. The base engine on the PT only had 150hp. After five years, I was ready for something different. The more I researched into the coupes that are out there, the more the Genesis seemed to be a hands down winner for the combination of features, power, handling, and price. I was actually a little surprised at how much the automotive press seems to almost universally like or love the thing. Once I test drove it, I knew it was going to be my next car. It was a matter of whether or not I could work the deal out with a dealership now or when the 2011s come in.
