Hi everyone! I've been eyeing up the gen coupes for the last few months but just haven't find the right deal yet to get me to buy. I think I want to go with a 2.0t 6 speed in Mirabeau Blue. I'm located in central PA and everything around here seems to be 6cyl autos and all dealers haven't seemed to want to move away from sticker price. This is a third car for me so I haven't been in much of a hurry, but the warm weather has kind of got me itching to buy.
I got an email from my local dealer saying about the 2.9 financing and that they can give me $1500 off a coupe, but I haven't had a chance to talk any further with them. I'm undecided whether to work off those numbers, maybe hold out till the end of the month, or wait and see if any rebates come out next month??? Just curious what others thoughts or plans are on buying?? Thanks- Jason |

I heard about the 2.9% financing too (on this forum, I think), but didn't hear about any rebates.
How much can you wait? Obviously, if you can wait a handful of months, then you'll get the benefit of the release of the 2011 model year (anyone have a more precise time frame of when that comes out? I'd guess October). I imagine prices for the 2010 version will become more competitive as a result. Or you could wait about 1 to 1.5years and the release of the Toyota FT86 and the reborn Mazda RX-7 (in the mid to late 2011 time frame?) will add pressure on the Hyundai dealers. You can feed them lies such as "well I think the FT86 looks pretty good, so unless I get a really good deal on the Genesis Coupe, I'm out of here."

2011 might not be around until early Fall. If that's the case, you can still try to be sneaky and use the excuse of "but 2011s are right around the corner" to get a lower price. Does any one know if such a tactic will work?

If you don't mind driving about 1.5 to 2 hours, go to Fitzgerald's Hyundai in MD. They sell cars for the actual factory invoice. I got mine for about $2500 off sticker.

Works sometimes at my dealer, just depends on how long the car has been sitting on the lot.

Also, their online prices include manufacturer's rebate. I thought you're supposed to negotiate a price first, then factor in the rebates. e.g. Settle on invoice. Then take off an additional $500 from the rebate. Or maybe I'm just confused. Anyways, I'm definitely gonna check out that dealership. Thanks for the tip.

I don't think their online prices include any rebates, they sell cars at the actual factory invoice, as in the price they buy the car for. Of course it's plus tax and tags but thats all. They also do not negotiate on the prices they have listed.

Yea I think I test drove that one lol. If you put a deposit down they can get one dx'ed for you (dealer exchanged) at no additional cost over their sticker price.

Edmunds.com shows the 2.9% for 60months and 3.9% for 72months. The only rebate they currently show for Hyundais is the military rebate. I heard some dealers will have a recent college grad rebate.

Yea but what they don't say is to get that apr through Hyundai you need at least a 680 credit score, and yes it goes up for 72 months (might go up even more at 72 if you dont have the credit but not sure). Ask the dealer if you don't believe me.

Oh yeah, I don't dispute that. Even before I started car shopping, I knew that the low-APR financing deals that get advertised are always dependent on your credit score.

I should note that if you don't meet that score it only goes up 1% to 3.9%, so not too bad.

One of the things that I have done when negotiating is to have another reasonably competitive car with a price from another dealership. There was a Nissan dealer near me that an Altima 3.5 coupe absolutely loaded for $27,700. When the dealership first tried to tell me they couldn't budge on price, I told them that was what they were competing against. It got them moving.
