Default Need some clarification on Alignment

I have 2 questions i need some clarification on.

1) What can cause an alignment to go out of whack? (other than getting into an accident or hitting a pot hole or something)

2) After an alignment is done, what's the normal time in between before another one is needed? ( due to wear and not user stupidity)

The reason why i am asking this is because i had my alignment done when i swapped the tires at the beginning of the summer and everything was fine. But now when i let go off the steering wheel, the car pulls to the right.I haven't had any accidents since the alignment was done and haven't hit any big pot holes, to be honest i haven't driven it all that much since then other than going to work.

P.S I posted this on the Wheels sections but everyone ignored it...so i am asking here.

It could just be the road you're driving on that's causing you to drift to the right. Did you try letting go of the steering wheel in different areas?

as the previous poster mentioned, it's the roads you drive on. I drive my car on the 401 everyday and a few bumpy/rough roads. I will be getting my alignment done every 4 months (it's safe to get it checked and adjusted twice in a year)

Just wondering if you checked tire pressure? Sometimes that is overlooked.

If your tires are directional, check to make sure all 4 are properly mounted in the correct rotation.

HOWEVER, I believe there is an issue with the suspension geometry that causes the car to drift to the right. It happens to me now after I installed my springs. I got an alignment and went for a drive and told the guy it pulled to the right, he said without adjusting the front end or something, it wouldn't be an easy fix.

If you didn't mod your suspension I'd say take it to Hyundai and see if warranty covers it.

Lucid, aside from all the obvious, I think the answer you're looking for is that it's the actual manufacturing ad design. Some models (namely the 2010 auto) specs have a tiny variance which results it to go slightly to the right. I've had the exact same issue in the point and that is what we narrowed it down to.

Hope it helps a little.

This actually helps..because mine is an 2010 auto and when i took it to the dealership, they said that it is normal for vehicles with wide tires to pull slightly to the right because of the way the roads are.

I wanted to make sure if they were making it up by asking here.

P.S Tire pressure is fine and all 4 wheels are mounted correctly.

Most roads have a crown, so all cars should pull slightly to the right.

The only exceptions are generally high speed corners with superelevation (banking instead of a crown), and driving in the left lane on a freeway (road slopes down to the left).

That said, there have long been complaints that the gen pulls to the right, even on flat roads with a good (within factory spec) alignment. I'm sure you could dig up a few different threads on that here.

The only surefire way to fix it, as far as I know, would be to adjust the caster until the pull is neutralized.

The bad news is that caster isn't adjustable with stock suspension components.

Constant problems pulling to the right on new GC...

Read that. I am going to be trying -2.5F and -1.5R and no toe (or a tiny bit of toe-in on the rear) when I get my alignment in about 2 weeks, just waiting for my springs to settle a bit more.

That is a lot of BS when the pull as bad as the GC does. If crown is the problem then driving in the left lane on a 2 way highway should make it go straight.

Mine did not until the alignment was done at somewhere other than Hyundai.
