Hey Andy, when you get a canned tune from BTRcc, you are buying a tuned ECU to drop into your coupe. That way you keep your OEM ecu for warranty concerns/easy swaps. Basically, at the end of the day you own two ECU's, one tuned, one stock.
BTRcc does not offer a module type flashing device at this time for either the 2.0 or 3.8. BTRcc Store

Was looking at the BTR website and I have an extreme NOOB question. In the options for hte canned tune there is a selection for 91 or 93 octane. Now I normally feed my car 91 but it does run well on crappy old 87. If I go with the tune, do I still have the option of running 87 octane (if the price of gas goes way up or when the wife fills up for me ((she's very cheap)). Also not that it matters much, what kind of a mileage decrease can I expect from the stock car? Sorry about being a noob

Well, its good practice that once you tune for a certain octane, you stick with it. I haven't put anything less than 91 in my car since it had around 5k km on the clock.
If you want to continue using 87 octane then stick with the 87 tune. BTRcc can tune more aggressively with higher octane fuels, due to the benefits of running higher octane fuel (search engine knocking/pinging/benefits of higher octane). If you want to squeeze more power out of your car, then you will want to tune your engine on higher octane fuel.

87 octane?!?!!!? My baby would never get that in its gas tank lol. 7 bucks per fillup for a happy car. All jokes aside, whatever you get the tune for, that's what you should put in. You won't get as much of a benefit if you run 87 on a tune. 91 all the way
Call it a placebo effect, but I drive my car pretty hard and I notice a difference with the 91 octane even without a tune. Oh from what I understand you actually get better fuel economy after the tune. But then you are probably going to drive it harder so it should be balanced

yep... an average of 7 bucks a tank and you get the extra power... definitely run the higher octane.

Our knock sensors give the ECU the ability to alter timing for different octane ratings, I'm pretty sure thats why they (Hyundai) say both regular and premium in stock form.

And just a reminder to those lurking, BTRcc is a really great company to work with, great customer service and a wicked product for both 2.0T and 3.8. If your ever wanted more out of your Genesis Coupe, then let the folks at BTRcc take care of you! |

Damnit! My plan for this year was a cat-back and either coilovers or sportlines but now you're saying I can get a separate spare tuned ECU for $900? Maybe I can hold off on the lowering this year and get the exhaust and this instead.
Just to clarify if I buy a spare ECU for $200, this spare ECU will be the one being tuned not my OEM one right? Also how hard is it to switch back ECU's for any warranty purposes? Sorry for the terrible questions but I'm hopped up on meds right now and I can't process things that well...damn up and down weather! EDIT: I have an automatic...is it still worth it?

the tuning session ins $650. If you purchase a seperate ECU, the tuning will be performed on there so that you can keep your stock ECU for warranty purposes. It takes about 2-3minutes to swap the ECU each time

Sry guys I might pull out on this one. GF wants to visit Korea and Japan this year and in addition I MIGHT end up selling my car for a house… but I'll keep my eyes on this thread just so if anything I can still chime in on that date!
