This car looks amazing and I did not see a post about this car. What do you guys think about it? I think it will really help Hyundai's image. (Genesis is already doing a nice job of that).

Hyundai Equus anybody? :D
JUNE 24TH 2009^ One of my pics on there got rehosted and now has some anime or something ![]() anywhoo, this vehicle has a scheduled release of September 1st and my dealership is going to be one of the few in the country that will have the exclusive right to sell the car. I tell you, compared to the Genesis Sedan, the Equus is in a whole other level

I really like it, but for the price and by the time it comes out i can probably find a used LS460 for around 35k-40k. |

I'm sure Hyundai is doing their research in bringing the car, and I am hoping for the best. I would love to see Hyundai sucker punch Nissan/Toyota/Honda by being a successful luxury car automaker without needing to separate the brand with an upscale renamed badge. But it is tough. The failure of the Pheaton is a clear example of what the Equus will have to face in order to succeed in the US market. Oh and PS: I've seen the Equus in person last year when Hyundai toured the car around. It's a very nice car and there's a LOT that is included for the price too. So in terms of what the car is, I am not in any way complaining. (Figured the disclaimer might be necessary to some)

And also, why are people so quick to commit to saying that this car is gonna flop like that fate of the pheaton?? Look what the car is offering and for the price... No one had faith in a hyundai entry level $40,000 luxury sedan or a performance sport coupe and look what the sales numbers look like.. People are going to buy this car plain and simple, not in the way they are buying the genesis and sonata but i have a lot of faith

you think thats dumb? try a bmw 740il costs easly over 80k and in a year there values go to null. i worked for our used car dept and seem them offer for a 09 with 5k only 30k dollars! why simply the cost and maintance of the vehicle is stupid. props to hyundai for making it. 50-60k with a 10year unlimited mile warranty is light years away from lexus and bmw.....i would take this in a min over a ****ing bmw my 2cents.

I admit that I'm skeptical about the Equus. After owning my GC a while, I have no doubt that Hyundai is capable of building a car that competes with some of those $60-$80k Sedans while seriously undercutting them on price. No doubt. I do wonder if people will buy them, though. For a lot of people, those luxury brands are as much about snob factor toward others or personal validation of success as they are quality of the car. I don't know that Hyundai will attract those people. I still wonder what they were thinking with that name. I think "Equus" is simply awful for a name. I'm also a bit disappointed in the exterior design. Hyundai is putting out some really beautiful designs lately. The Equus is very bland looking to me. Not that it matters. I'm not their potential customer. Even if I won the lotto, I don't think I'd ever spend $60k on a car. I might spend $200k on four or five different cars, but not $60k on one.

No, I've only seen pictures. I suppose it's possible that it will look better in person than it does in pics, but I'm not holding my breath on that.

Yeah... I don't think Hyundai's planning on selling a lot of these suckers!
I think they're just testing the waters on this one. I personally think the Equus isn't the best looking car. I'd much rather have the Sonata or Genesis Sedan over this. It's too big and bulky. But the pictured car(Lexus) is so much uglier than this. I really didn't understand why people bought that big Lexus. It's really not very nice to look at. Probably very luxurious inside though. I'm sure the Equus will be just as nice inside. It will sell a thousand or two per year when it comes out. I think that was Hyundai's goal next year. Anyhow, hope to see some out in the streets someday. |
