Thanks for your time.
Hello we've done 20+ 2012s without issues and we are the only vendor who can reuse your own stock data.
Where in Canada are you located?

Hey everyone.

Just wanted to post a quick review about the reflash and my customer service experience. Also, want to ask Jay or anyone else that might know a quick question at the same time.

Review:
I received the 2.0T Premium fuel tune (i think its for 91+) on January 2nd 2012 for a Automatic 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Thank you Jay for meeting me. You were extremely helpful. I can honestly say that Jay goes above and beyond to provide a good customer experience. He even helped me put the genesis emblems on my wheels free of charge after the tune!

Okay, on to the tune. As many have said the minute you try it you're going to go WOW. It really helps makes acceleration smoother and faster. This car moves with the sfr tune. A huge increase in acceleration seems to be the main thing I've noticed along with a real push back in your seat effect that the car seemed to lack before. I have had no problems since getting and am loving the car. I also mentioned to Jay i would do a gas mileage estimate to see how the tune effects the car.

Before getting the tune on a 2 hour mostly highway trip going between 50 and 70 and stopping at a few lights I was getting about 24 to 25 mpg. This was on regular gas, I switch to premium after the tune and have been running that ever since. Just recently I made the same trip in very similar conditions to the first time, however this time I made it with the tune. In one direction i was getting about the same 24 to 25 mpg as I had gotten before the tune, but before I took the trip back I changed the oil for the first time (Pennzoil Full synthetic 5w-30 if anyone is wondering). On the way back i was averaging about between 25 to 26. I was at 28 for awhile, but that was when cruising consistently w/o hills at about 50 to 60.

So, it seems the tune may give you slightly better gas I will have to do a little more testing in the future to confirm. I am tracking with fuelly now as opposed to using the cars tracking system in the past.

Let me know if you guys have any other questions and I'll see if I can answer them.

My question:

For Jay or anyone else. Ever since I bought the car I've noticed the exhaust tips turn black after about a week and I have to wipe the carbon build-up off. I thought the switch to premium and tune would solve this, but it is still happening. This means the car is running rich, correct? Shouldn't it not be doing that after the tune?

Hope to here from you guys. Thanks!

Actually this happens more during the cold start and has to do with weather condition. You will probably see them more in colder days since in cold start running rich+ exhaust getting hotter+moisture.

Hi strezy, if you want more info pm me. If you get the core ecu then you will not worry as much but we do reuse your stock original data from your stock ecu. We also have a toronto event going on if you would like to check it out in te Ontario section.

A reflash does not have any outward sign to show the car is modified to warranty work. So, barring someone pulling the code and knowing how to read the code, which doesn't happen at a dealer service tech level, they will never know. To give you an example, I had a custom tune from Jay at SFR and had my ECU hardware fail do to a short in my electrical (not Jays fault at all) and it was replaced under warranty, no questions asked. That being said, if you are that concerned about, keep in mind you have 2 options for major warranty work. You can either work with Jay to get a second ECU with tune that you just switch out or know that Jay saves everyone's stock data on his laptop so should you ever want to go back to stock, you can have him retune it back at any time.

To get it reflashed, you really have 2 options. You either attend a local tune event that is hosted somewhere near to where you live (check the local region sections for your area for a thread trying to get tune day interest going or to join on a tune day already in the works) or you can mail your ECU to Jay, it is typically turned around in 24 to 48 hours and sent back to you. I have personally done both with him as I set up 3 different tune days in Houston, TX and also have had to mail my ECU to him twice lol. Mailing would typically be quicker, but it means no car for a couple of days during the mailing time and work at the shop.

As he has already said, he has done 20+ 2012s and I have watching him do several myself. Even ones that are "virgin code" meaning the first time he has seen that version, it takes a few extra minutes, but he is still able to get it done for everyone that I have worked to get to a tune day.

Finally, in regards to your bolt-ons, because this is a reflash, it retains the stock ECU traits and atributes, just utilized better tooled maps for engine parameters. What this means is that the car retains it's ability to slightly adjust the maps and other settings based on sensor feedback from new mods and your driving style. It just means when you put a new performance mod on, you will need to pull the negative from the battery for about 5 to 10 minutes to reset everything and then go from there. The car will take about 1 gas tank worth of mileage (200 to 300 miles) to relearn everything taking into account the new mod.
