Default Someone say strut bar?

Yes, we know the the US-spec coupes come with an OEM one but for the rest of ya and those who want something a bit more then what Hyundai gave you, you're in luck!

GTSpec is very close to releasing their front strut bar which is yet another part developed in conjunction with GenRacer!

Check it out!

Looks good . . . pricing I would imagine would be in line with what's already been released for strut bars?

looks beefier to me, which is always better to have a beefier front sway bar in a RWD car. I wouldn't get a rear sway bar without upgrading my front sway bar first.

Not much other than looks. As he said in the op it's more for those who didn't get a strut bar ie non us spec coupes.

This strut bar better be better than Tenabe's, because that strut-bar is a joke!

Default No good!

See the pivoting joints at the ends? NO GOOD!!! You want to maintain rigidity in the bar. Try holding a pencil between your fingers and rock them side to side... They do maintain the distance but do nothing to hold the fingers in place. The humble stock bar, as simple as it looks will hold the shock towers in their original positoin better than any soid billet steel bart with pivoting joints at the ends. Good for looks, not function.

Actually it depends on how the suspension is setup. A strut bar's main purpose is to do just what you said, to keep the top of the strut towers from moving in and out.

if you have negative camber setup, its beneficial on fast corners, because regardless, the chassis is going to flex and will let the spindle assembly go closer to 0* camber on the outer wheel, which most of the weight will be transferred to in a corner.

0* camber = more tire contact patch = more grip

The joints are to relieve the bending flex on strut tower bolts, and on the strut bar .

If you wanted no flex, then you would weld a cross bar diagonally across the engine bay, through the engine

I wonder, are those little cups/feet welded on? They don't look very sturdy from the pics, but perhaps they look tougher from the bottom side. IMO, those would be more of a concern than the pivot... the pivot is not going to allow the strut towers to move in relation to each other, which I've always been told was the most important part of the strut bar, keeping the towers in proper relation and transferring some of the stresses from one tower to the other.
Linking it back to the cowl would be great though.

Most of the strut tower bases are up to the job. Where they fail is maintaining the position, not just the distance between the tops of the towers. Many years ago Porsche () made several very accurate measurements of what happened during hard cornering... the towers moved OUT, not in. This was a big surprise to all owners who would put a strut tower in the front and over-tighten the bolts so the towers were already pushed apart before any stress was put on the car. I didn't make this up, look it up in the Porsche forums, they know sosmething about racing and suspension. If you want a top notch bar, get one where the bar is attached by at least two screws in a transverse fashion, ie, just like the stock bar. Hyundai got it right!

Here's a great writeup that was in JDM Option in conjunction with Cusco.
[ PR ] CUSCO

Explains the what and how of a strut bar with measurable results.

I want one!!!! Price???! Shipping to Canada?

This will sell well in Canada, since many doesn't come with the strut bar.

Release date final yet?

The link above leads to a site where the diagram shows stress put on a cat in a vertical direction: straight up and down. In real world driving, and when turning, the stress is put on the chassis and on the shock towers at an angle. That's why you're turning! The shock towers will try to move OUT.

awesome link, on top of thins as always andrew.

if only they also went into how a more robust front strut is wanted in a RWD and visa versa for a FWD car.

That car in the pic is mikal's. I've seen it. Looks nice. Gtspec is a well respected chassis bracing company among Nissan owners
