Default Need help about dash

Hi my name is Matt I just recently bought a 2010 2.0t track edition. On the dash next to the cig. Lighter there's a insert for something. What is it for? I tryed looking for it in the manual but it doesn't say anything about it. Here's a pic. Thank you!

It's for the transponder key. It allows the car to see the key in the event the battery inside the key fob is weak or discharged. It does not charge the battery in the key fob, and there's no advantage to using it if the key battery isn't weak or dead.

And it can make tiny little peanut butter and jelly sandwiches if you add the peanut butter, jelly, and a small piece of bread. Seriously, have you ever wondered how you you start your car if the battery in your keyfob is dead? Guess this would be a good time to mention that your keyfob has a key hidden in it to open the door too. The problem is that once you get inside the car, you still have to enable the starter. Sticking the keyfob into the receptacle disables the engine immobilizer and enables you to start the vehicle..

I doubt it disables the immobilizer, I'll have to grab a friends fob and try it some time.

it only disables it until the keyfob is pulled out and the car is power cycled. The immobilizer reactivates after parking the car automatically.
