Default TSW Wheels and Stock Tires Help

Ok! It's spring and it's time for new aftermarket wheels. I think I've narrowed my selections down to the 18" TSW Nurburgrings and the 18" TSW Max. I think the TSW Max might be new since nobody seems to have them in stock. Anyway, my question is: Will the stock tires for the 3.8 Grand Touring fit either of these wheels. I'm sticking with 18" wheels because the 19" give a harsher ride. (I've been told!) Anyway anybody have either of these wheels with the stock tires on them?

Frt: 225/45 R18
Rear 245/45 R18

Thanks!

Ed

Depends on the width of the wheel... Stock 18's are 7.5" up front and 8" in the rear. Track wheels are 8" up front and 8.5" in the rear, and the tires are the same widths (225 and 245). So if you get wheels that are in the 7.5"-8.5" width range, yes your stock tires will fit.

If you go wider than that, the stock tires may still "fit", but they will be stretched. And if you're going for ride comfort, stretching probably isn't the best option.

Also, go with the Nurburgrings. I've been looking at those wheels myself, I love that spoke pattern.

acgidley - Thanks for the info! I just found out that the TSW Max's might be too wide for my stock tires. The fronts for sure. The smallest size that 18" Max's come in is 8.5" wide. So, you're right, on the the Nurburgrings, which are much more accomodating in the sizes available. Or, another choice that also fits are the 18" TSW Snettertons. Decisions decisions, decisions. LOL! But, I'm ordering something before the week is out. Thanks again!

My nurburgrings are in transit, but mine are 19" and I am getting new tires. Make sure you get wheel widths that would accommodate the tires you have, like what was already said. Also, I don't think that there is much of a difference in ride quality between 18 and 19's to make them dumb to purchase. The r spec and track gc's are sold with 19's so clearly Hyundai doesn't think its a bad thing. If this is where your thought process is, because track and r spec ride is rough, its the suspension, not the wheels.

Nurb's. I have TSW's on my Mazda 6 and they make great wheels imo.

I'm sure that's for liability reasons. There are things you CAN do with tires that you probably shouldn't. Peek around the forums for evidence. (225s on a 10"...LAWL)

The approved rim width ranges for the OEM 18" tires are as follows:

225/45-18 - 7" to 8.5"
245/45-18 - 7.5" to 9"

The Nurburgring is available in 8", 8.5", and 9" widths in the correct offsets for the Gen Coupe so you could certainly go with this wheel model in a staggered set-up and utilize the factory tires.

The TSW Max is produced in 8.5", 9.5", and 10" widths so this wheel is not recommended for staggered use with the OEM tires unless you run the same size (18x8.5) all the way around.

Do I need to get new TPMS sensors if i am just using the stock tires?

You would either need to get new sensors or have the OE sensors changed over to the new wheels. If you have them changed over you may need a TPMS rebuild kit.

OK! Here's a follow up to my TSW wheel quandary. I was still split between the 18" Nurburgring and the Max wheels plus, told there might be some minor fit problems. Then a couple days ago, I saw a BMW 328i, I think, with some killer wheels on it. Turns out it was going to Walmart, the same as me. I parked next to him and asked the owner what type of wheels he was rolling. He said "Momo Revenge"! Who, what, where'd you get them followed! So, I went home and got on Discount Tire Direct and low and behold, they had them in 18" as a sure fit for my Gencoupe 3.8 Grand Touring. And, better, they were $300 cheaper than my 2 TSW choices. So, you guessed it! I ordered a set with all the fixins yesterday and they should be here sometimes next week. Here are pics of the wheels and, I found a car with Momo wheels on the web similar to the BMW I saw the other day. (Might be photoshopped) When the Momo's get here and I get them installed, I'll post pictures for the world to see. The Revenge comes in Anthracite and Black. I prefer the black but they may be out of stock. Then, I'll take the Anthracite with no problems. These wheels will give me the edgy look I was looking for to begin with. And, I saved $300. "Sweet!!"

TruK1lla - I think the offset is 40. Check here to see info. 18x8 for both front and rear wheels! So, I can keep my stock tires, I hope!

Stock tires will be fine, but 18x8 +40 offset? That's going to be even MORE tucked in the rear (and probably about the same in front, if not a little more tucked). You may not be going for "flush" (hell, I'm certainly not one into the "stanced" or "hellaflush" look), but I think you'd be better off with at least a little lower offset than OEM.

Acgridley - Hmmmm! Thanks for the info! I guess I'll just have to wait and see what the stance will look like. I couldn't find any pics of any Genesis Coupes sporting Momo Revenge's on the web. So, I will admit that I'm flying blind here. I'll make sure I post pictures for everybody when they get here. I've dealt with the same tire shop for years. If there's a problem, they'll tell me before they put them on the car, so, I can send them back if necessary. I love the wheel style so, I just hope everything fits.

Are you lowered at all. You better check to see if you will have enough inner clearance. That is a crappy offset for the genesis coupe. You should probably look into spacers

jzamorski113 - I'm not lowered but still stock! Discount Tire Direct says they'll fit. I don't mind the spacers but, I prefer not to use them if at all possible. I can't do anything now until the wheels get here and my wheel guys get a look at them. See! This is turning out to be the same problem that I was trying to avoid with the TSW wheels. Just my luck! LOL! Thanks anyway!!
