Ok, I guess I don't know jack about tires and the more I read on here and on the Googles, the more confused I get.:dunno::squint:

So the question is, what is the widest we could go on stock wheels? (19s & 18s so we can cover all models)

Thank you for your cooperation!!!

I ran 275's in the rear for a little while and they handled great, but they were probally a little too wide, I would say 255 rear 235 front. I put the 275, on because one of my oem tire got a puncture in the sidewall and it wasnt much more to buy two new hankooks for the price of one oem replacement, and I had new wheels on the way that were 9.5" wide so I knew once those showed up the 275's would fit well.

photoshoot when I had the 275's on the rear:

my 2011 2.0T base coupe factory stock. front wheels 225x45x18 in 7.5 inch wide rims.
rear 245x45x18 inch 8 inches wide. tires are all wearing even. also mine came from factory with nitrogen in the tires with tire monitering sensors installed.

Damn that looks hot, you had spacers on as well?

I wouldn't say they were unsafe by any stretch but yes probally a little too wide for the stock 8.5" wheels but if you read why I did it then you already know that. I would say 255 is probally the best

Do we have anyone with this on car? pix? fit?

@DevilDog, What's your reason for wanting to go wider?

While more rubber will be making contact with the ground, the sidewalls will have lost some stiffness and therefore cause an increase in latency to steering response. This is why a lot of race cars will have a very slight stretch to the tire to increase sidewall stiffness.

I ordered my tires a while ago through a tire shop.(stock size) They called me and said they were in so I went to get them put on. When I got there they said oops only the fronts came in but they had some 265/40/18's in stock and that it would be the same diameter as stock and it would work. I said ok I'll try them. From the back it looked like a beast and handled great but from the side the bulge difference front to rear was not my taste so I went back to stock width.

That's my only concern going with wider tires. I like the flush look. The picture from kamkaze is a little too much that's why I was thinking 265/35 or 265/30 rear and 235/35 front with stock 19s.

Double D I'm starting to believe we may see eye to eye on some things or at least have some similar views on the way we like our cars.. Just remember mines sexier cause its SB. hehe..

However, My next question is this.. If we both settle on 265's on the back for our next roll out.. Do you have a tire in mind? I used to go with Kumhos on my DSM's and Good Years on my TA's..
But none of those cars handle like this does.

A buddy of mine and I were discussing at a house party Friday night that this very well may be the best handling and safest at speed feeling sub 100k stock car we've ever been in. I feel that way including the driving aspect.. I've always favored Over-steer, but the neutral go where I point it steering I'm starting to enjoy.. However, under-steer terrifies me.. So I love my stock tires but, I want something with the same or better sidewall strength and grip as now..

I need to check the next time I'm on a computer and not my phone, but they used to have charts that showed the contact patch difference between brands. Not all 275s are the same. Another brands 275 might be narrower or wider than the hancocks he posted pics of.

Dude, that would be an exceedingly helpful and valuable piece of information that all of us should have access to.. We'd be very appreciative.. No ****..

Very true lol

I was a discount tire earlier today getting the Explorer's tires rotated and got to talking with one of the guys about oversized tires for our cars.

They recommended the Michelin Pilot Super Sport

And the Ponteza S-04

What's crazy is that the S-04 is a better tire than the OEM RE050A, much cheaper in price and longer thread wear.

He said that the Hankoo's R-S3

and the one that most GC owners get the V-12

Guess I'll have to do more research so I know what to get when the time comes.
Aside from the Hankooks. I've tried most of those tires in the past I think.. Or older versions of them.. the michelin's I've run on my TA before.. I think I have a pic somewhere..

I wouldn't run the RS-3 as a street tire unless you have a money tree growing in your back yard. One of the best autocross tires out there but at 140 treadwear I doubt you'd get 8000 miles out of it.

My next tires will be the S-04

The RS3 doesn't look like it lasts that long either

The S-04 is a newer version of the RE050A which is why it has better tread wear rating and better performance.

Not sure if it was posted elsewhere, i did try to search first, but for the 2013 GC i found this as the base set of information as it pertains to tires/rims.

Offset: 30 to 42 mm. Tires up to 703x245mm (front). Rims up to 21x9.0" (front).

That sound correct? anything different someone has found?
