Hey guys, I'm looking for a hand here. I am certain that I am missing something quite obvious, but I can't figure it out.
Here's the scoop. I emptied my catch cans about 3 days ago. These are the cheapo kind of catch cans that I bought in 2011. About 24 hours after changing the catch can, I hear a loud wooshing noise on the way to work, and again on the way home (about 6 miles each way), that is worse with acceleration but still present at idle. The car drove not great, as you might expect. When I got home, I found that the little plastic tubing that acts as the indicator for the catch can on the side had broken.
So I took off both catch cans and placed the tubing across where the catch cans were, like the car comes stock. However, after doing this, my boost gauge only reads 2 psi max when the pedal is all of the way down to the floor (normally it reads somewhere around 12 psi I think). Weird... I get to work fairly early, so no traffic means that it is just 60-80 mph all of the way into work, no stopping.
But, on the way home, there is lots of traffic. So I am on my way home, and it was a tad bit warm in Pittsburgh yesterday, and I turned on the AC. Well, my car really didn't like that and let me know by shuddering frequently while I was stopped in traffic, about 1 shudder every 5 seconds while not moving. Then my check engine light came on. The car is able to get me home, and I tightened the hose clamps more and checked the tubing, and I can't see what I did wrong (a picture of the work is included below). I was able to get back to work today. But the boost gauge still only reads ~2 psi at maximum thrust, and the car lacks the power it had earlier this week.
Unfortunately, this problem is in addition to several other problems that the car has developed over the past year. I was just wondering if anyone has any idea what I did wrong (because it I am certain is must be something I did) or if there is an easy fix? I am on call tonight at work, so won't be able to get the car to a dealership/autoparts store until tomorrow morning. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!
