engine shuttering under load

ok so heres the deal. ive got a 2010 2.0t. the car drives fine until i get on the throttle hard. once the car hits about 4k rpm it misfires and doesnt go higher in the rpm band. its currently tuned by sfr and ive never had any fuel related issues using 1200cc injectors. its got new spark plugs as well and a recent install of the hdi intercooler kit. the issue only happens during hard throttle pulls and im kind of stumped on the issue...

Check your sparkplug gap[/QUOTE]

ive only used the pre gapped ngk plugs but ill give this a look still. what gap range is acceptable on our cars?

fuel injectors are next on my list tho.

What NGK plugs did you use? .028-.032 is a good gap for the 2L BK1.

What stage tune? Did you go with a colder heat range? Gap at .027 - .028.

The engine missing at a set rpm usually indicates spark blow out.

I had this happen when I gapped my NGKs to what the service manual said to use at the time, which was incorrect. (early bk1 service manual)

Also check the coil boots, they could have been torn or cracked. Since they are silicone, you'll have to squeeze them to see if there are any cracks.
But I doubt this, as it would have started missing a lot lower in the RPM. Still worth checking.

the spark plugs are ngk lfr6aix-11 which after checking are gapped at .044. unfortunately i didnt have time tonight to close the gap but ill try it out tomorrow afternoon. the spark plug boots look almost brand new after checking and show no issues with the coil inside either.

for those asking about the tune its a custom tune from sfr since its got the 1200cc injectors and a gt30 on it.

actually i did end up changing the spark plugs a few weeks back now that i think of it so im gonna order different plugs and go from there.

just ordered the ngk lfr7aix #2309 and should have them in a few days.

also, i notice that my 2 step doesnt work which is tuned around the same rpm as my misfire issue. anyone have an idea if the 2 could be related?

could be. If it retards fuel timing, then unlikely.

If it retards spark then highly likely.

With all that STUFF you have done, you should be running NGK race plugs or HKS M40 XL either gapped to .028 thats the magic number for high load setups,..its infallible, so are the NGK race plugs. Either will work, doesnt matter if your are 2.O T or BK2 3.8 with turbo. They are the bomb my brother.

I ran heat range 9 NGK race plugs on my super VT with meth at 32 psi. You should check into the heat range 8. R2556G-8.
You can buy them from NENGUN in Japan. Dont ry to buy them here, they will cost you 110 bucks a plug. Say goodbye to plug worries, like forever.

Also Techron the **** out of you fuel for a couple of tank loads, then go to a per tank injector fuel treatment like CERMas.

Dont know where you are from, but like so many,...just throw whatever is in the pump. Y oure a 2010 so she could easily be dirty, even with the newer injectors. Top tiers suck too, E10's E 15's, dirty shitty mass produced, minimal add packs. The only exception would be if you are lucky enough to live somewhere that has a Shell which carries NO ETHANOL V-power 93.

Here we go again !

ill check into the hks plugs. ive read on other sites that people still preferred the ngk plugs over hks on other platforms. also this motor is a fresh forged and sleeved bottom end so it shouldnt be THAT dirty lol. it only gets 93 octane fuel per the tune but unfortunately in nj all gas stations are required to have E10 or maybe its gone up to E15 already. i have a meth injection kit to put in once i figure this out too.

HKS's are just marked up rebranded spark plugs. HKS doesn't make their own spark plugs.

I have had good luck with the OE Denso for the BK1.

I heard Hyundai went to NGK because of some Denso ceramic insulator failures though.

the issue was in fact the plug gap. brought the plugs to .028 and it worked great. up until my clutch shot itself in the foot today. thanks for the help guys, much appreciated.
