Hello im hoping to buy a 2014 genesis 2.0T
Have been reading alot in these forum and it seems like the manual transmission has some issues and they are hit and miss with quite a few people, has hyundai addressed this problem with the 2014 model?

Anyone that has a 2014 model that can chip in on what i should be looking out for or expecting on the manual genesis

And are there less mods available for the auto vs manual?

I do plan to upgrade the car a little but not too much
im thinking of upgrading the intake, down pipe, intercooler pipes and btr stage 1 or 2 tune
This is going to be my daily so im trying to see what my options are

any feedback is appreciated
thanks

Honestly, i would have loved to get the 2.0 genesis to get the turbo, so i could buy some nice blowoff valves to make that sexy noise when I shift, but I ended up getting the 3.8 2016 Genesis coupe, Personally if u have the turbo ur all good! but automatic isnt bad either, I myself got the automatic one also which came w shift-tronic so im pretty satisfied.

I have never really owned a sports car i have ridden sports bike and the power on those are way different anyway

And i am definitely going for turbo hence the username: woooshx2

what im debating right now is the auto vs manual part i dont really have a preference among them but if the manual is having problems and the auto is not then i would definitely go with the auto, is the auto limited to the mods you are able to do on it?

Im strictly speaking about the 2014 model from what i have read it has the new carbon synchros was it called? but some have commented that it is just a bandaid fix and not really helping the tranny

Carbon coated synchronizers were added to the manual transmission starting in 2014.
I have a 2013 2.0T and it is awesome, lots of boost for a stock car. I have an A/T though, I cannot say anything for the M/T. The 2013 and 2014 are different. As I quoted, for the 2014 M/T they added the carbon coated synchronizers, and for the 2014 A/T they added rev-matching making downshifting more smooth when in sport mode/shift mode. A 2014 A/T will have some benefit unless you like to drive stick. One thing is the A/T holds boost when shifting through the gears, and you will not hear the blow off valve (at least when stock). At least around here a 2014 is harder to find than a 2013.

Hmmm, I have the 3.8 2016 coupe, I would say they would have the same amount of mods but i think the older yrs like 2014 would have more mods atm. I Literally just got my car like a week ago and i already ordered dual exhaust, test pipes, and a few exterior mods on it as well. Yeah go for the turbo forsure! gonna be more fun and many more engine modifications for it as well that i know of.

I actually made this decision when I bought my car. I just ended up getting the AT. I didn't want to deal with any potential problems either even if it was a matter of bringing it in for a warranty fix. Car still runs like a champ. But I do have to add that it really is a hit or miss with the MT. I've had lots of other buddies that have owned a 13+ MT and have had no problems at all till this day even with mods/aggressive driving. Just really taking your chances there. If you really want more control of your car, MT is the way to go. I wasn't tracking my car or racing everyone on the road so I settled for the AT.

As far as mods, generally most is the same (besides transmission of course). Not much of a difference in mods for the AT or anything.

In there 2010-2012 there were issues with damaged synchros during assembly.

I haven't heard much about shifting issues on the 2013+ cars.
Mainly with throw out bears going bad, but thats because of people using the clutch all the time, instead of just shifting into neutral.

2014 MT 2.0T here with no shifting trouble since brand new.

Manual here. The transmission is good, just clunky. Reminds me of older mustang t45/t5's in terms of shift feel. Its definitely not smoother like other sports cars. Its main downsides IMO is shifting under load or cornering, but that can be solved with stiffening the engine/trans mounts and shifter mods as to keep the entire driveline more symmetrical.

the overwhelming majority of transmissions are fine, especially on the 2013+. you will be fine. i have a 13 6MT with 90k miles still runs great

2014 M/T with 60k miles and tuned with full boltons and no issues at all. My 2011 on the other hand was grinding gears from the moment I bought it and I also went through 2 TOB in the first 40k miles :( .

I have a 2013 M/T I haven't had any issues with my own. I'm also making close to 400whp and the tranny is taking it like champ.
