Just purchased a 2013 2.0T. The battery went dead and I replaced it 2 days ago. Went to crank the car today and nothing. I tried jumping it off and still nothing. I removed the connectors to the battery and the 150 fuse put them back on and the car cranked fine. Any suggestions on what may have caused this? Autozone tried to tell me it was definitely the alternator. I may be a female, but have changed a few alternators in my time. This just doesn't feel like it's the alternator. Any suggestions?

If I understand correctly:
new battery
tried to crank, and nothing
disconnected battery and connected it back
starts fine

If that's the case, maybe the battery needs to have more clamping on terminals when it was installed?
Bad ground?

Or a weird case where the original battery drained, and not having the battery disconnected long enough to everything else to drain fully.
When my battery was dyeing, it would do strange things electrically, when I would jump it and when I swapped the battery.

If it continues, I would check the battery ground and the starter solenoid.

alternator ... ah thats a RARE issue where a bad alternator will reverse its function and just drain the battery until its dead... Not sure on how that technically works but i have heard of this ... again, its a rare instance ..
When you say it nothing .. do you mean it wont crank over like the motor is turning just wont fire up .. or do you mean the motor does NOTHING ...?? People have a tendency to not explain it properly especially when it comes to a motor ... like you can turn the key and the motor will turn until it fires over then starts running ... or you put in the key and the motor turns but wont fire over to run... it just keeps turning like you ran out of gas or you have no spark ...

Nope, that's not it. I don't know what you're on about. Alternators are passive when not turning.
the computers draw current when in standby. (a stereo is a computer also)
An alternator not charging and the parasitic draw, will cause the battery to go dead.
But even a new "dead" battery will have some charge to turn on the car.
Either the battery terminals weren't properly secured,
many bad relays,
or a short, bridging the terminals down the line, which I highly doubt, as there would be fire and brimstone coming from the engine bay. But that are what fuses and relays are for

1. if starter makes a funny loud noise and cranks slow while starting. bad starter.
2. if it randomly wont start on you or your driving you hit a bump and it cuts off loose connection to terminal. squeeze terminals gently with pliers while disconnected then tighten down tight. loose connections damage alternators and starters.
3.if voltage of alternator is not between 12.5 to 12.8 volts while off and 13.8 to 14.8 volts while running change the alternator.
also just in case you didn't know running a car after a jump start isn't going to charge it. it takes a while to charge a battery with a battery charger.
