Dyno 2015 3.8L

Hello everyone, Today I did a Dyno Test on my 2015 Genesis.

here's a video
https://www.facebook.com/song.chau.7...71990592042028

here's the result

279/241

Modifications:
SFR Canned Tune
R2C Intake
Throttle Body Spacer
Throttle Body Coolant Bypass

Anybody have any suggestion what my next mod i should go for if i want to be pushing 300

Was looking around and saw stocks 3.8 pushing 270 So something tells me i'm not doing something right here.

The only thing you've done to add power is the intake. So, 9 hp is about right.

A custom tune and remove secondary cats would be the next best things to do.

Doing track lessons would be good too.

Auto or manual? Also, remember every car and every dyno are different, even the same car and same dyno on different days will yield different results.

You will likely get about 10 - 15 hp from a true dual catback exhaust. When I removed my stock exhaust, it wasn't just a single pipe, but it was pinched from the factory in 2 places making the restrictions even worse.

I would have expected a little higher numbers just from the tune. That does seem like stock numbers.... Any way you can give the dyno another go?

Your numbers are low even if you were stock. Saying that, elevation and temperature could have caused low numbers. Also are you runing premium 93 and was traction and stability controll off?

Temp of a 102 F definitely had negative impact.

Yeah, to determine if you're numbers are low or not, we need more information.

First off, automatic or manual transmission?

What gear were the pulls taken in?

Were traction and stability control completely turned off?

What brand and octane gas and is your canned tune matched to that octane?

Elevation and temperature?

The graph is also being shown in the STD standardization. SAE would read slightly higher.

But yeah, for more mods titan2782's guide is where I'd look at next.

Not directly related to the thread, but how did this setup feel?

Did it boost the low-end torque a bit?

I'm guessing it wasn't enough since you decided to go turbo though lol.

Overall impressions of the power would be cool.

Setup felt pretty good granted I never got the chance to get custom tuned on the setup. It definitely added some low end torque. I was at 407whp and 420tq before the motor popped. 1st and 2nd gear traction was non existent and she pulled pretty hard on the freeway. Surprised some people for sure! It was very fun to drive while it lasted!

I spent a lot of money chasing power as NA and nothing really satisfied my desires. After doing a crap ton of stuff and spending several grand, I got my car up to 305whp BK2 8AT with SFR tune.

If you really want power, I recommend skipping all the standard crap and PNP your IM and add a turbo kit with oil cooler and better radiator.

It's a lot of money, but it's a lot of power. I'll never try to milk another NA car for a few HP here and a few HP there. Just doesn't seem worth it anymore when boost makes such a huge difference.

These results actually seem about right. Granted all he has done to his car is an intake. The canned tune he has won't really do much at all power wise, it's more for the drive-ability. You need a custom tune and definitely get a full TRUE dual exhaust with 2ndary cat deletes before getting custom tuned. You will probably break the 300whp barrier with those mods. Look into getting a PNP throttle body as well before being custom tuned, it can help tremendously. I believe there was a thread around here where a guy with a Bk2 showed a 23whp gain with just a bored throttle body. Best of luck, I myself plan on upgrading my SFR canned tune to a custom tune as soon as I can get to a tuning event.

With intake and canned tune you're lucky to get 290whp, so yeah, 308 isn't bad. If you play your cards right, you don't have to chase power with the n/a setup. Of course, you won't be getting much higher than 330 so hopefully you don't expect more than that. I'm actually expecting 330 as is and 340 if I decide to spray 80/20 mix water/meth (not tuning for it). If tuning with meth you could hit 350, but you'll be married to it at that point though which is why I decided against it. If you really want power, you can follow shortrack and his N20 build. He hit over 400whp on mostly stock 3.8 and spent around $2k.

To tell you the truth, that intake is actually going to hurt you when you close the hood. Dyno numbers don't really mean much.

Let's do the math -

Under his name it says he's from Kileen (I'm assuming Texas), so 900 ft. elevation. Air temp was 102 degrees (F). I'll assume a Relative Humidity of 50%, which is likely low for Texas this time of year. I'm also going to assume 270 HP at the wheels stock.

HP LOSS = ([elevation in feet] x 0.03 x [HP at sea level]) / 1000

Numbers come out to a LOSS of 34.2 HP.

If he were to run the dyno on a "Standard Temperature" day (59 degrees F), his loss due to elevation would only be 10 hp. I hope you guys at Sea Level feel sorry for us at some elevation with hot temps.

That's pretty impressive. I'm afraid to get mine dyno'd even after all the mods I've done...LOL. Was that a Dynojet or Mustang? Did they have it set to SAE or STD correction? Those variables will make a huge difference in numbers.

We seem to have either a fair amount of variation in our assembly line produced engines, or (most likely) there's variation with the people, dyno's themselves, and environmental variables.

The first dyno was SAE, the current dyno was STD. First dyno was at 4500ft elevation, the 2nd was lower, like 1000ft maybe? Temps were about the same, early morning in colder months.

If things work out, I'll be getting another dyno at the SFR event again this august. So I'll see what 100* temps do for power.

I know it's been years since I posted this thread, but I just wanted give you guys closures. Lol
During this time when I had my vehicle dyno,
I was in Orlando, FL
My Genesis is a Manual
Not sure what gear the pull was taken in or if the TCS had been disabled and what dyno
I was running 93 and used mainly Mobil Gas when I could.
and this was a free dyno for a local tech. school for a event.

I've since took everyone's suggestion and added Ark Performance downpipes, Ark Performance Testpipes, and Ark Performance Catback and a Custom Tune from BTR.
My new results came out to be 305WHP and 280TQ. Thank to everyone, I finally broke the 300WHP barrier.

Since then, I have lost interest in going after HP and mainly sticking to cosmetic mods. Unless one day I decide to invest into a turbo kit lol
