Exhaust for 13 track edition auto

New to car stuff. Friend of mine said I'm good with any exhaust really, as long as its stainless steel and sent me one on Ebay. Which is listed at $269 on sale from 500(new item with 48 sold already). Would this be decent enough and work well enough that I wouldnt need to spend 700 to 1k+? Theres one YouTube video with this one on a gen w the burnt tips. Sounds nice but should I be weary? https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F322115792164 ...link for exhaust(idk if itll work

You get what you pay for...and no, not all exhausts are the same.

Two things:

1. That kit is made to net a big profit at the lower $269 price, it was never intended to sell for $500, it's likely going to have fitment and quality issues. Most stainless exhausts that are of any decent quality will start at $1000 for this car.

2. The stock exhaust is a single pipe exhaust with a muffler with dual outlets, this is a single pipe exhaust with a muffler with dual outlets, it might sound a bit different than stock but it will net you no performance benefits that a true dual system would.

Save your money for a while and get a decent system, or spend that $270 on a throttle controller (Sprint Booster or Tros Booster) which will net you way more smiles per mile.

Check around for a quality used exhaust, i found a Borla catbac in great shape for $500. FWIW it looks and sounds great but i dont think it makes any noticeable difference in power. I also have the Sprint V3 booster, its a must have.

Sprint booster just came in and engine leash! Found a used ark grip exhaust for 700. Yes it's super cheap compared to new but I dont have it right now 😞

Also grab yourself an intake and a tune.

To be honest the oem intake is great for this car and should not be changed im my opinion. With an aftermarket intake you will lose the oem piping leading to the front fascia therefore losing the forced cooler air leading to your intake. Why have an intake that sucks hot air from the engine bay.

Hmm. That's nice to know. I'm still really new to learning about cars and theres really not much out there about the track edition that helps me know if theres something I should or shouldnt replace

Everything i have read states on the 3.8, theres no advantage in replacing the stock intake other than sound and looks. I found a deal on a used Borla, better sound and looks, but otherwise i would have been content to leave it stock. I considered a tune but im not a racer and didn't want to chance any future smog issues, im quite happy with a sprint v3 booster and engine leash.

Ark is the best...
Totally subjective, I love the sound but tastes differ.
Custom tune is the biggest bang you'll get but that's getting into money.

A couple of my opinions on this post:

A stock 3.8 with ATM does not need a leash. No need for one either with minor bolt ons like intake and exhaust.

For those who say after market intakes are a waste....look at it like this, an engine breathes by way of an intake and exhaust. Changing the exhaust to optimize flow and pressure (I no way do I mean straight pipes or best "sound" aka noise) aids in the engine's performance. To match this, you change the intake so the engine can breathe optimally by way of in and out (intake and exhaust). Engines also perform better when the air they take in is not only clean but "cold" (read as in cooler or as in as close to ambient air temp as possible with unrestricted flow). So a simple SRI which sucks in stuffy hot engine air is not much of an improvement. To optimize the intake, you will want a custom and true cold air intake with an free flowing channel and opening for the incoming air.

Once the above is accomplished, the custom tune will allow you to take advantage of the mods and the tuner can set the power band as you want, for low end, mid range or top end.

Need? No, but none of it's needed.
Fun? Yes. Leash was the best $50 I spent on the car (or whatever it was).

Agreed, none of it is needed, the coupe is a fun car for what it is right out of the box. The leash is just such a simple and inexpensive mod i figured "sure why not",it just gives it a more solid or connected feel during acceleration. Same thing with the booster, it dosent add any power, but makes the throttle much more responsive. Ive even considered a C.A.I. (S.R.I.), just for the sound and looks, and any possible small gain in usable power, i just haven't found that smoking deal i just cant pass up yet.😁

I purchased an ARK Performance DTS catback exhaust from someone nearby me on Craigslist or Ebay for $800 and it was barely used. You never know what you might be able to find just be weary of those kinds of deals! Lol. That being said, I love my exhaust and I'm so glad I found that deal.

Yeah so the guy is selling from the crew cali crooks. So I trust it. But I'm in MD so shipping is almost 200 lol but now I'm at the "spend 850 on a used one or 1.3k on a new one(which requires more saving) I might see if he can throw in his intake anyways
