Oil temp gauge not working

Had to replace my motor a few weeks back with a “new to me” motor with 10k claimed. My buddy broke my clock spring so I have a few lights on for that.
Regardless I used my old wiring harness. Never had anything wrong electrical. Since I first got it running I’ve had this issue. Is it possible I missed something on install or should I just look into swapping the sensor?

The sensor itself is easy to check with an ohm meter.

What engine do you have?

Test with an ohm meter with connector unhooked.

I got a code reader today it’s throwing p0198 high output. Cleared the fault and the gauge works for a few minutes before shutting off again. I have a 13 3.8. Where is the sensor located? I’ve looked through threads and haven’t seen anything

On the 2L it's just below the PCV valve.

If anyone can verify the oil temp sensor is under the fuel rail on the bk2 3.8?

Appears to be on the right side of the engine at the rear.
