Question about repaint

Hello all, been a member here since I got my 2013 Gen Coupe in 2013 but have not been active as much. Just had a question regarding a repaint job I just got done.

My back bumper and front one were starting to turn a bit yellow with yellow spots as well as peeling. I also had some damage on the front bumper from ice when parking in a lot and backing out leading to crack / scratches under. I just recently got them repainted and was wondering if I should worry about temperature and rain during the cure process.

The person that did it has their own shop and I asked them 3 questions when picking up the car last thursday.. Should I worry about rain? When can i wash? and When can i go and detail it?.. He said I shouldnt worry about the first two and that the car had sat to cure for 3-4 days before I picked it up, after the repaint / rebadge. But regarding detail, to wait a few days. I have heard that he works on usually more expensive cars and in professional conditions obviously.

Now for my question, .. It has been 40-48 degrees every day this week and wet conditions here. Should I worry about the paint changing color or rain messing it up? I have yet to wash car myself but it has rained each night. And it is kind of cold. I know ppl recommend repainting when it is above 60 degrees... But should I worry cold temp wise? I was told that this professional / their business would not release the car to me until it is ready and cured but as any person that loves their car. I was just a bit worried or curious.

I have posted two pictures, unfortunately.. I have not had any sun yet at all to notice the pearl effect of the White satin pearl during the day.. I see when it is cloudy that there is a slight shade darker over the front hood of the car?.. However, when I look at night with the Halloween lights reflecting (that i have to take down).. I see that it is the exact same paint / pearl effect. It looks brand new and amazing. I have a feeling though that it is the cloud shadows / darker day time because the doors of the car are also darker. Perhaps the angle of the bits pointing up are lighter than the ones that are vertical... as it should be. But the fact that i see the same pearl effect has me relieved.

I probably have nothing to worry about though as far as the paint matching or weather? Thoughts? I appreciate the responses if there are any. At the very least so far, with the rain, I have not noticed any chipping or spots.

I also want to add that after looking at this forum today, some people are discussing their 2013+ white satin pearl front and back bumpers getting yellow and eventually peeling.

This is what happened to mine as i said above, but should I expect the same thing to happen in 3 years as it did after 3 years of perfect paint with my car when it was new? Yellow spots at first? Or is this paint job probably better?

Assuming your painter used good paint, you should have no issues. Was the paint baked in the booth used? If not, it would be wise not to do anything for a week or so, and no wax for 30 days. Rain and cold should have no effect.

Pearl (and most metallics) are very difficult to paint match without blending the color into the adjacent panels. Since you only painted the bumpers, you can expect a little deviation. These colors will set up differently on plastic bumpers than on sheet metal, and that affects how well the colors ultimately match.

thanks for the reply. While i see this deviation during the day, when i look at night and see the light reflecting.. The bumper looks 100% the same, down to the pearl effect and pearl color sparkles... The deviation as far as i see it 1% different or barely different seems to be when lookin head on during the day. When i bend down and look at the side fenders near the front wheels. It seems to match from a side view.

This honestly could just be the lighting from the cloudy days this week. If the pearl at night seems to be perfect. I dont see how there is difference during the day. I need a sunny day.

Good. My point was “don’t sweat a slight mismatch “.

Remember, metallic flake and pearl are just redirecting light. Hard to make a perfect match when painted at different times from different paint batches. Sun position and viewing angles can alter what color you see. Blending minimizes the difference by spreading it out over the adjacent panels, but doesn’t guarantee you won’t notice it.
