So i've had my Gen Coupe for about 5 months now and am looking to start changing the exterior a bit. I have about 3 questions that I would like some help with.
First one is currently my car is red but i'm looking to change it to a blue color, somewhat light blue. Would it be better to get it painted or get it wrapped?
Second one is I was thinking of getting my wheels powder coated. Would it be better to do that or just get new wheels in general? The new wheels would probably cost double if not a little more than powder coating the stock wheels which don't look bad.
Last question for now is with the exhaust. I have been looking at exhaust systems and trying to figure what exactly to do for it. I've taken interest into the ARK Grip exhaust but that is pricey. I've also seen people talking about changing the muffler. Any advice on this would help.
that's all a matter of taste.
i paid well for a good wrap and i'm very happy. poorly done wrap can look bad and ruin paint.
i also dipped the wheels. everything can go back to stock.
except the exhaust, love my Ark...
Unless your paint is trashed, id say go with a quality wrap job, unless your willing to spend the money to have the car stripped have a proper color change done. If your at all concerned with resale dont change the origional color, red, (resale red), is more popular than blue, and personally i really like blue. Like br2 said, its a matter of taste, personally i like the look of my stock 19" wheels, yea i know their heavy, but the fit well, are durable, and dont cause me any problems, id also say try dipping your wheels, at least at first before making a permanent change. For exhaust i found a great deal on a used Borla catback on this site, used coupes are starting to change hands that means more used accessories should start to become avalible if your patient and search around.
Awesome, thank you for the feedback! I will probably wrap the car rather than paint it. I never thought about dipping the wheels, is the quality as good? Exhaust I will gladly wait for as those can be pricy haha, maybe i'll find one being sold from someone.
The nice thing about dipping the wheels is its reversible if you want to return to stock or just want to try somthing different. Ive seen one near me where someone masked off just the flat face of the wheel and plasti dipped the web black, i thought it looked really good. It took me a second to realize they weren't aftermarket wheels.
Wrapping is the way to go...I did a partial wrap of the hood, top, rear and it looks great. Very few places do premium painting unless you spend a fortune (trust me I know). powder coating is good on wheels, dont cheese them up with plasti-dip. Every time I see wheels that are plasti-dipped, it screams of cheap.
If you wrap, they make a liquid protector specifically for wrap...buy it. That and when you wash, dont use towels that arent microfiber, they will scratch if rubbed overly hard with crappy towels. Ive wrapped my last 5 cars.
Ive considered a wrap but my concern is does it do any damage over time to the paint/clear coat? Im in the desert, how many years can i expect from a quality wrap in extreme heat? (100 plus) Ive seen a few wraped cars around here with splitting on the hood.
