They're saying it's larger because it actually is. Too many people focus on the body of the car, but if you look at a side shot, the front wheels are waaaaaay close to the front of the fender. Secondly, pay attention to the rims that are on it right now. Those are the 3.8 sedan wheels. Probably testing a sport suspension with the larger body.

It's going to be longer and larger. Hyundai has said that, and this proves it. I was told it's going to based off the 2015 sedan platform. Geared more toward luxury performance which is why they're scrapping the 2.0

Interesting...it seems that Hyundai is trying to move away from the Genesis Coupe as a sports car and into more of a larger and heavier GT/muscle car.

There's these spy photos which suggest a larger car, also apparently Hyundai is dropping the 2.0 and adding a V8 to the range (which a few years ago they said would never happen...) personally I'm glad they're making it more of a pure competitor to the Mustang/Camaro/whatever the G37 is called now than trying to go after the BRZ/FR-S/GTI

Here are a couple engine bay shots, looks a bit different under the hood, but in the same way similar to 3.8 v6....
Looks like a wired mess to me.... and also the hood strut seems to be upgraded; from now on you have to raise the hood manually and place the strut into an opening in a hood... hmmm i guess i can live with that...

This is not a spy shot per se of the actual new design, I agree with others that this car is probably a drive train test bed with a longer wheel base and frame, maybe this car actually has the V8, cant really tell in the engine bay, maybe they took a 2015 Genesis sedan frame, drive train, engine and wheels and put a coupe body on it? It might explain what is going on in the lower door sil area. That 2014 front clip appears to be barely attached and the rear bumper attachment maybe jutting out to accommodate the extended frame.

This will be the most anticipated redesign for Hyundai, I highly doubt the company would give the public this much show when all these debut are kept secret to a certain point.

Just for reference, here is the same thing with the Elantra GT just spotted. If you look at the fenders and wheels, you can tell that the frame/body do not line up properly. They just stuck the current body panels on it so that the public doesn't noticed too much. And they don't have new body panels finished in design/production yet. Hyundai has been testing a few mules lately.

Absolutely incorrect. I am not sure why you assume that, in being rather too much of an extreme overshoot. The BK-coupe successor is definitely not scheduled to launch in 2017 at the moment. Only in the event that severe unforeseen developmental issues occur, should such an extreme estimate transpire.

Only Germany's Daimler AG and to a lesser degree, BMW Group, are known to publicly test mules of future vehicles nearly three years ahead of scheduled production start. At Hyundai Motor Group, it doesn't happen that early nor even as publicly. This is one area that Asian automakers best their European counterparts, leaner product development time.

Also, a secondary BK facelift in 2015 would've be rapidly developed (in the instance of significant delays) from 2013, so there's no turning back last minute in the interim. Nothing like that is even planned, as such an update to the BK would need final mid-stage approval no later than Q1-Q2 2014.

Before anyone assumes this, that mule is not even testing such a thing, as a properly sheathed facelift prototype would suffice in that case. It's the BK's successor, in early public testing trials. I am only here to help.

At the risk of sounding repetitive, I must correct and clarify that such critical stages are past complete, on both vehicles. Design work on both has already been frozen in production form, otherwise you wouldn't see a pixel of anything related to them engineering-wise (legally that is) being tested.

What isn't ready, are certain hand built body panels for the prototypes, which are representative of the future models' designs (as seen with ix35 prototypes). Most vehicles do go through multiple design phases during development, with production body design, dimensional and sheet metal accuracy being finalized around 18-30 months ahead of production.

Trim-specific details are finalized a few months before the stage that precedes pilot production. Such as headlight and taillight cluster design details, accenting, wheel/rim design, etc. This is currently what's taking place on the design front. Items such as taillight or headlight shape are well past completion and cannot be altered, without spending tens of millions more in development expenses.

At HMG, this is also a new form of testing vehicles that is now being employed. Previously, the only physical evidence of an upcoming HMG vehicle the public would see, were actual prototypes, usually 90% representative of the production showroom variant and not of the predecessor like test mules.

People must remember, that test vehicles mostly representative of the production body design are not test mules, but strictly prototypes.

Look at the oil dipstick location. That's not where it is in the 3.8 engine. I wonder if this is the rumored 3.3 v6 turbo?

You've got your information wrong.
Hyundai said from day one that a v8 would not fit in this chassis.
The new card is larger, therefore a different chassis.

Putting a v8 in the next generation car is not going back on that claim.

That is def not the 3.8L. No surge tank. Possibly small v8 or more likely turbo V6.

Not only that look at the right side where the fuse box goes on the current car, looks different there.

As for people just noticing the body, as said it is just current body panels stuck on a new chassis. The unibody is clearly longer.

I don't know how they are going to do the pricing if they drop in a v8 because they sell the v6's for about 30k...so if they try selling the new model with a v8 for 35-40k I can tell you what...its not going to sell very well. I bought a 2.0t because I got it for 20k and I like boosted, if I had been spending 30K? I would have been walking out of the Nissan dealership with a new z.

I think they should have went more light weight and stuck with just a 2.0T and gunned for the 25k range of sports performance, althought I doubt it would work out well with the new Miata and against the brz/ft86(even with its whooping 200hp) would be a tough group to fight. but luxury performance? Id take a bmw if I am looking for that.

I hope it is, but I doubt it. I had my platinum tech come take a look at the pictures just a moment ago and he mentioned a rumor that Hyundai was redesigning the current 3.8 so we can't put too much faith into the dipstick location, since it may have just been relocated. He said the top of the timing cover looks like the current v6 cover and the oil fill chute is in the same location as well. Exciting nonetheless. Can't wait to see the new body.

Well from recent press releases it sounds like they want to go up market. the Kia stinger will most likely be what you are asking for in the 25k range. Light weight and more like the BRZ.
I spent over 30K on my genesis. I had the choice and went with the genesis over the Z. I just like the platform better.
Hyundai has the largest profit margain of any car company. I dont think they are making a bad decision ( 2nd best educated country in the world ) It just may not be the decision we like.

I would like to see how the stinger turns out, I sold my z cause I got tired of paying on a 35k car loan and moved down to a new genesis for like 21k. I love the interior of the car and most of the outside except the front, I told myself it would grow on me...it hasn't, the more I look at the front of the 2013+ the more I think its just a hideous mess. the 370 just looks cherry all around for me. Now the pre 2013 gen coupes I loved their hood and front bumper. I mean fake hood vents on the 2013's+? come on now how ghetto Hyundai lol.

If that is the case, then SS,GT and SRT's would not be selling like hot cakes? All in the 35 to 45k range.all 3 are heavy and would kill a 370z! It might open the door for a hotter voloster? Could you picture a voloster with 274 horses?

Most of those cars will do marginally better than a Z in a strait stretch run, also take those 3600-3800 lbs to a track run vs a 3200 lbs Z and see what happens - and Nissan said the next z will be about 2800 lbs and more power. And SRT big boy cars with 500+ hp cost more like 40-50K. Anddd....you ask most car guys you want a Korean Camaro v8 or a real american brand v8 I can tell you which one most American consumers will buy...established names and brands like mustangs/Camaros/challengers.
