That's too much work and too much to look for for a Mod. That's like 1000 posts daily lol

Also just because a member is new, it doesn't mean that he is a noob and Does not know about cars. I myself have come from a different community and have a vast knowledge about cars. Yet my post count is "newbish"

I think when you sign up as a member you should be asked random basic car questions and acronyms to decide if you fall under the noob category and will have posting limitations your first month.

How about when you complete your membership signup, instead of being redirected to the home page you are instead redirected to the FAQ page. Until your 5th log in or something when the homepage becomes your standard redirect after log in.

That will rise an issue about members just logging in an out until their 5th log in.

Here's a good idea:
Upon completion of sign up, you are asked 10 questions(multiple choice or true false) about cars in general. Your score will determine your requirement of posting or time of membership needed in order to post in for sale ads and such.

And at that point new members that have no clue what the questions are asking will go ahead and ask Google for the answer instead.

Still think a noob section would be great even without the previously suggested required month wait or whatever. I think noobs will be most likely to see that than read an FAQ.

I think we all just need to keep telling people to search, and direct them to relevant threads they could have found on their own. Also, if its another of the thousand intake threads, report it and ill do my best to lock it and pm the OP personally lol.

I don't see that as being a problem, but it can simply be a one time redirect. The question idea, meh. Taking an automotive IQ test just to look up information, or post, or make certain threads might deter people from actually becoming active. For sale threads and things of that ilk already have rules in place to prevent violators from creating new threads with disregard to procedure.

You will never be able to stop those looking to be spoon fed. And for some, it might be the only way that they learn.

Atleast noobs will learn to use google to answer the questions which is what they need. Whether they keep doing that or not is up to them and we have no control over that.

Noob Central sounds fun, but from my experience its mainly used by the gaming community. With that in mind I think GCU - Gen Coupe University might be catchy. Or simply FAQ LIBRARY. Threads here are locked and are only updated by mods. Must haves would be the accronyms, then a link directory for specific offsite references or copy/pasted articles on specific engine/mod principals of operation.

I'm an IT guy by profession so I'm a pro googler, but I'd much rather read what you guys feel are the best articles on specific topics than having to sift through a lot of crap or incomplete articles that may not apply to the vehicle I'm interested in.

Thanks for brining this up!

that would be anyone who wants to contribute to the Tech Exchange...

What is required for a new FS thread?
  • Detailed title of item
  • Detailed description of item (specify if its new, used, etc.)
  • Contact information (Phone number OR email preferred - not just Private Messaging)
  • Asking price
  • Location (State if local pickup or if you will ship)
  • Actual Photos of the item
Any of these missing means your thread will not be approved.

I'm a moderator on another forum, this would just cause people to do more cross posting, double posting and they still wouldn't even bother to look.

A FAQ for each section would be more useful, Such as General 2.0T Engine FAQ.

Or Have it when anybody starts making a thread, it shows you threads with similar names before allowing you to post.

A FAQ for each section was what I was saying in the first place However they should all be under one general FAQ section with subsections that are menu driven so people can drill down to the info they want without the dreaded "searching".That way when redirected by a member or mod they will all be sent to the same opening page not all over the place. That will be more straight forward for everyone and maybe the new guys will even stumble onto some other answers they were looking for at the same time.

The pop up w/ similar name of existing posts when starting a new post sounds interesting but a bit more programming would be involved. I don't see any reason why you couldn't do both.

Making a Massive FAQ will only assure that nobody reads them.

Thats why I suggested breaking it up so each forum gets is own more centralized FAQ.
