All of a sudden, this site is slow

The past week or so I'm seeing really long load times for forum threads. Clicking a link to open a thread can take 5 or 6 seconds whereas before it was pretty instantaneous. This happens for me with multiple browsers on multiple systems so I don't think it's me.

The browsers tend to show two sites that continually take a long time to load, static.verticalscope.com and b.scorecardresearch.com.

Here are pings and tracerts to both servers and the numbers seem fine, yet the forum is much slower than these numbers would seem to indicate.

Anyone else noticing this too?

Code:
C:\Windows>ping static.verticalscope.com

I constantly have lag issues with the forum, but only at work, and our network is trash. I'm on IE 7. SERIOUSLY? Never really seem to have issues from home. Are you on the same ISP on all the networks/devices that you're testing on? It could very well be an ISP issue.

As far as dev is concerned, it's one thing to traceroute pings it's another thing to download dynamic content. I'm not sure what kind of framework the forum uses for everything, but it could just be issues with their side. It's mostly just text, but you gotta figure it's pulling an image file for every avatar which needs to load. Most of the menus and divs look like they're simple css and html markup, only the header and the ads look to be image based. Should be a pretty responsive site considering the amount of dynamic content. Nothing too tricky to report just looking at the surface. Do you typically disable javascript or caching/cookies in your browsers? Stuff like the "last visited" and login panel and post count, etc are probably run off of javascript...so if you have that turned off that could do it. Might be slowing thigns down pulling an alternate version of the site. What browser do you use? IE has really poor standards compliance, though a big forum like this with a dedicated support staff should be able to handle all browsers with no issues...but if you're only a really old version it may be falling out of support.

And today, it's back to being super fast, like it always was!

I ran gencoupe.com through some online testing sites and someone definitely made a change because the numbers are much better than they were before.

When you pay and become a Premium Member, you don't get all the ads any more, and it is much faster.

Two problems with that idea....one, this wasn't an ad display problem, it was a problem with two of the outside tracking services. And two, I wasn't a Premium Member when it was fast for all 6 months I've been here and I wasn't a Premium Member now that it's back to being fast. So it's never been about the ads.

I've definitely noticed a difference in the speed of the site since becoming a Premium Member. The pages load instantly for me. Even on the date you started this thread, I had no issues at all with the site. It's just always fast.

hey Tony,

I am not noticing any issues with site speed on my side. Are you still having an issue with this? Also are there times during the day when it is worse then others?

Nope, it's been back to great speed since the 25th. It was definitely having issues with the two tracking sites I noted in my original post. Now things load quickly enough that I can barely see those names show up in the browser's status bar at the bottom.
