I'm late to the party, but I think most everything has been said already. We knew it would be a rule that some people love, some people hate, and some just don't care. For those that are no longer going to visit the site because of it, I'm sorry you feel that way and I hope you can find a community that suits you. For those that are just going to say "F the rules" and keep doing whatever you want, well, at least you know what's coming.

Kamkaze pretty much nailed it though. Put your disclaimer up that it's not on public roads, or that it's on a closed course, or even better would be to actually just film it at a track. It keeps liability from the site and its owners. Just don't post a video, even with a disclaimer, that contains people doing so on an obviously public/open road, and then complain when it gets deleted.

Maybe you can discuss with the owners about putting in a specific "street racing" thread, stickied in the off topic section, where ANY AND ALL street racing posts go. So if people don't want to read/view street racing stuff, they can avoid it and if they wanna whine about it, they can whine in that thread.

They did it on IWSTI and people are pretty happy about it.

IMO, a subsection dedicated to street racing makes it worse. That actually makes it look like the site condones it, even if they have a disclaimer saying they do not.

I believe that the owner has said too that most of the other sites they run do not allow street racing threads in them either, so we're in no way pioneering anything here.

If their videos of street racing aren't allowed because street racing is illegal, why are their still videos of people doing burn outs and doing donuts on public roads and parking lots? I'm pretty sure thats illegal also. So I'm guessing those videos must go too.

If we get very technical, I'm pretty sure every exhaust vendors threads even show "illegal" activities... Pretty hard to get a 3 or 4th gear WOT exhaust sound without breaking some kind of law....

What is required for a new FS thread?
  • Detailed title of item
  • Detailed description of item (specify if its new, used, etc.)
  • Contact information (Phone number OR email preferred - not just Private Messaging)
  • Asking price
  • Location (State if local pickup or if you will ship)
  • Actual Photos of the item
Any of these missing means your thread will not be approved.

not to mention not having cat converters...

but I don't think it is strictly the legal aspect, it also has to do with attemping to stop the street racing 'intense emotional' fights. As dounuts and catless has caused some discussoin, never any real heated fights or anything.

Keep your racing off the streets please, take it to the track. I have many, many, many accident scene photos I could show you that would cause anyone here, and I mean each and every one of you "street racers" to throw up and think twice about it.

I don't think anyone here wants to slam into a highway underpass PC steel support beam reinforced with concrete, going 140mph and have their head from the bridge of their nose to the back of their head sliced clean off by the windshield and then have their friend who is taping the race in the backseat killed by your skull fragment that goes through his face...or do you?

Pics anyone? We could make this NSFW...Don't worry, I won't post those here.

you prove thier point, just at the mention of street racing and we get emotional strong responses.

not baggin you dw, just pointing it out.

but since a few people have cut holes into the "its illegal" reason, that would perhapse make room for a dedicated section for it, where only street racing condoners are allowed?

Prove their point? It's not about sides of an argument. How many times have you seen an autopsy performed, seen the aftermath of a horrific accident? It's about saving lives, not winning an argument.

If you want to race in the middle of the desert where the only person you can kill is yourself or the other racer stupid enough to be doing it, then by all means go at it. But the moment you do it on a public street, you take all controllable factors and toss them out the window and endanger other people. That's when it gets messy.

My "emotional response" may also be due to the fact that I lost my best friend to someone speeding going 60mph in a 25mph and hit him head on. He was riding a cruiser.

I don't want that happening to another person out there. Take a look at the national reported accident statistics, they're appalling.

I understand completly why you have an emotional response, that is why I said that specific topic generates emotional responses, I didn't say it is right or wrong.

But you don't 'own the internet' and if they want to do it, who are you to stop them....(other than being a cop) lol. not you dw, but you generally speaking you.

but agian, nothing against you, but you proved the mods point further, that street racing leads to strong emotional responses... for whatever the reason may be.

They brought up good points about this site allwoing a ton of illegal actions. so the only other reason i can see not allowing street racing videos are to prevent arguing.

One way to prevent it, don't allow people that don't like it to post in that question.

I am not a fan of the majority of NSFW stuff, but I don't ask that the site bans it, I just ask for a tag, so I know not to view the thread. And when I stumble on a NSFW thread not tagged, I report it... not to ban them, but to put a tag up.

Maybe street racing needs a tag too and it could be fine? Just don't enter it if you don't like it.

Again these are just suggestions, I am not a mod nor do I the FINAL say. But that doens't mean they can't listen to my say and possibly change their mind or find a compromise. Sometimes life just isn't fair, if they wanted to ban street racing they realy don't need a reason, they are the owner and what they say goes. But generally there is a reason for things, and the illegal reason is no longer valid since a ton of illegal things are allowed on this site.

There may be things that are questionable legally, like testing exhaust sound, etc, and mods/admins pay them no mind. However, street racing is no longer one of them. Straight from the newly ironed out TOS:

Doesn't really get much simpler than that.
