Conflict of interest anyone? Does anyone at Autoguide actually USE automotive enthusiast forums or do they just charge for them and collect & tabulate money while eating said second class ham?
A handful of things:
1. Said moderator was in talks about becoming a vendor, but jumped the gun. It's happened to a few pre-banner vendors on here, and they're given a warning to stop until they get the banner.
2. After being given notice, the link/info was removed. Nothing progressed into a paid vendor, so at that point no rules are broken. Same thing has happened to other people who refused to become vendors. As long as they remove the references when asked, they aren't in violation.
3. Plenty of things that people probably think are getting ignored actually don't go unnoticed in the mod forum. We (the mods) agreed, before this situation, that a vendor cannot be a moderator, and vice versa. So if it were ever to progress to that, they'd be expected to step down. There has been no argument against this unwritten rule, including from the one you're pointing the finger at.
4. Chill a bit. Maybe some users on here don't like some or all of the mods, and I'm sure there are plenty of people that disagree with some actions we've taken, but we put in our own time voluntarily to try and keep peace around here and make sure the rules are followed. At least respect that. I'd be lying if I said there hasn't been a time or two that I was fed up and thought about resigning so I didn't have to deal with it anymore, but I like most of the people in this community so I've stuck around, even with the occasional angry mobs, torches, and pitchforks.
Back on topic.. We do have a thread about this issue too, so I know it's being worked on if it hasn't been resolved yet.
