Couldn't find a definitive answer sorry to post a new topic. Is it safe to bypass the stock ECU solenoid and use the intake manifold as a vacuum source for boost. I just hooked up my turboxs RFL BOV to the intake manifold and capped the Stock solenoid. The boost holds perfectly now. No more hesitation/sputter. But my tuner is telling me its not safe.

Can anyone verify? Should I go back to the Solenoid?

He says

"Be careful doing that I donít like that solenoid being bypassed it is weak and it does fail but the computer is looking for a particular vacuum and boost level and if itís bypassed itís not there"

"Thereís electrical connecter that goes to it in the computer is looking for that signal if itís not there itís going to be unpredictable. Just because itís common doesnít necessarily mean itís a good thing."

Just leave the solenoid plugged into the connector. But put a cap on the front ventricle port nipple.

The ECU will at times open the BOV when you are still on the throttle. This is at the redline and sometimes when at light, part throttle. Many will think this is the BOV leaking but it's part of the strategy.

I just got a CEL today after hitting max boost. And I'm suspecting its because of the solenoid bypass, as thats the only mod ive done lately. Not sure why, I've capped off the solenoid and everything. The CELs on but the bov is still blowing off normally and I'm hitting my normal boost levels. Unfortunately i dont have a wideband yet to monitor my AF/R. Side note: i replaced the primary cat with depo o2 housing around 800km ago but never got a CEL then could the CEL now potentially be from that?

Hard to tell unless you get a code reader.

FWIW I tee into the bigger line in front of that black and white check valve.

Would that really make any further difference in performance?

Also, the CEL disappeared after resetting the ecu. Strange...

The reason why the car is throwing a CEL from what I'm reading is that you deleted both cats with your O2 housing. Without a tune, a CEL will be present. If you capped off the solenoid and ran the lines and teed it where Red Raspberry said, there should be no issues and CEL. Get a tune where it turns off the O2 sensor CEL and you'll be golden.

I have a stage 2 tune actually and the file was already configured to have the O2 CEL code bypassed so the ecu never threw a code when I slapped on the depo o2. Plus it's been about 1000km since I've driven with the o2 housing with no CEL (until recently). What I'm going to do is wait and see if i get the CEL again and run it on odb2 and report back to you guys. Thanks

I've had two BR tunes that turn off the second O2. The second one I had to leave the O2 unplugged or I got a code.

Red is this what you meant by tee into the black and white check valve? (Pic 1)

If I'm not getting a CEL from my current Intake Manifold source (pic above) is it fine to run it this way or will there be a compromise in performance.

Yes that is how my BOV is plumbed. If it works for you then no big deal.

Some BOVs need a stronger vacuum signal to work properly. You should match the BOV nipple size to the hose and not reduce..

I have the same blow off valve and wondering if it made a sound difference? I just installed it and was let down with how quiet it was. I mounted it onto the stock solenoid, thanks in advance
