Prosport EVO Oil Temp Gauge Acting Weird

Hi All,

I've had a prosport EVO oil temp gauge installed for a while and it's always acted a bit odd.

It starts displaying a temp at 100F, so if the oil is below that the gauge just flashes until the oil temp is at or above 100. On days where the ambient temp is below 75, once the oil temp is at or above 100, it displays the temp correctly. If the ambient temp is above 75, I can drive the car all day and the gauge just flashes dashes no matter how warm the oil really is. Any idea what could be causing this? Doesn't seem like a wiring issue considering the relation to the ambient air temperature. I have a wideband AFR in the same add-a-circuit as the oil temp gauge and it never has issues either.

If it helps, the gauge is installed in the center console where the stock gauges were, and the temperature sensor is mounted in an oil filter sandwich plate. All wires in the back of the gauge are snug. I haven't changed anything because I don't know where to even start. This is on a 2013 2.0

Thanks!

How did you ground the sensor? I have had issues and it turned out to be a fussy ground. I've also had issues with the board in the gauge and the connector. ProSport tech told me to bend it up a little when plugged in..... Not the EVO series but their digital series.

Interesting, I will try bending the plug a bit. I emailed prosport about it and never heard back. It's just weird that it consistently happens when it's warmer outside.

I don't remember where I ground it, it's been so long since I installed this and have just lived with it. Is there a recommended spot? I can pretty much run the wire anywhere. EDIT: Thinking about it, I probably grounded it on the undercarriage somewhere near the oil filter but I need to get under the car to check.

Be sure to ground it to the body frame. Should be a factory ground somewhere in the sheet metal. Engine is better.

So it was ground to the frame. Feel like an idiot though. I crimped the ground wire at the oil filter plate to extend the wire and DIDNT STRIP ONE OF THE WIRES. Working perfectly now. Must have been in a hurry 3 years ago when I installed it. There must have been enough of a connection that it worked every once in a while, or with hot/cold expansion and contraction it made just enough of a connection.
