Hey, good thinking... Just noticed your post.

I've been contemplating where we should start keeping an eye out. Front shock towers and rears are obvious, the rear subframe pickup points too, though they're hard to inspect. Where else would you look for failure?

idunno, when i started worrying about it is when i finally let go of my Stealth.
mine's been babied and probly has another 10 years.
shorty's probably has some high stress points and bears watching.
all depends on use/abuse.
planes are fine for 50 years but they get thorough overhauls every X hours.

Yeah, but to your point, there are parts of cars that folks would do well to inspect on an aircraft style schedule. Brake lines, shock towers, etc. Things that can surprise and quickly kill you. lol.

I've done it, just not in a Genesis. Had an E36 that I checked a couple times for cracks/fatigue. First time was uneventful, or at least i didnt see the issues. Last time it had a bent rear subframe, cracked rear subframe pickup points, cracked semi trailing arm pockets, cracked weld beads around the rear subframe pickup threads, cracked driver side strut tower, cracked engine mount lands on the front subframe, and the forward stud on the passenger side of the chassis to attach the front subframe was excessively corroded. Only crash was a minor headlight smash driver side. Slight crumple to the fender, but no unitbody damage. Makes one wonder.

Dropped off the car at the dealership to get the passenger side sqeaking/creaking fixed and wheel hub. I'm surprised my dealership knew about the creaking thing and are fixing it under warranty. Gave me a nice Elantra GT as a rental

True but probably the biggest and simplest change you can make with the Genny, 2L anyway.

Hey guys, the previous owner of my 2011 2.0 gen ****** the rear diff. Can I swap for a 3.7 from a 2013 2.0 manual ?

Yes you can but your Gen Will be much slower unless you turn the power up by 30hp .Either find another 3.909:1 diff on Ebay or better yet, a 4.181:1 would be better .

Yeah, I don't know what to expect yet. They said they had to inspect it first to determine if it was a warranty issue (maybe if there was an accident or some aftermarket work that could cause it). They said they wouldn't know until Monday (I dropped it off Thursday for work to be started on Friday). After they determine it is warranty work, I can get a loaner. I don't need a loaner as that means getting back to the dealer to pick it up and we have other cars I can drive.

But we will see what they say. He did say it is likely the welds under the fender, so he is familiar with the issue.
