I just wanted to say, i just installed my tablet (Nexus 7 2012) in my car and it is fantastic.

I am running Mahdi Rom on the tablet. (Link at bottom) It has good settings for configuring the UI and stuff like that. I dont think it has USB DAC Settings though. Anyway, the Anker Charger that I got is retardly good. (Link at bottom) It charges like 1% every 5 minutes with GPS and streaming music on (This is not an exaggeration). I ran into an issue tho, that when the car was off, i was having significant battery drain. Like maybe 8% in 3 hours. The drain was attributed from Google Play Services. I installed GSam Battery monitor which is excellent, it gives much more detailed information as to where your battery is draining from down to the process being used. I found that within google play services, the process that was killing all the battery was NlpCollectorWakeLock.

This is evidently a process that google uses to collect data on where wifi networks unknown to google are located.

Most solutions to solve this either worked half the time, or disabled different features like google now. I wanted google now so, i Investigated, and found a solution to disable this without interfering with anything else. Here is the link on how to do that:

Fix for NlpCollectorWakeLock that does not cripple your phone : Android

So anyway, after disabling NlpCollectorWakeLock, i have seen a large improvement on Idle battery discharge.

1% down in 6 hours! and i left the car outside just to see how the cold would affect it.

I cant fathom this device ever dying on me now. It positively charges if the car is on and barely discharges if the car is off. and there is NO USB DAC involved. just standard charger.

Everything working great! Charged to 100% before i even got to work!

Widgets i use: Better DashClock on Left, with quite a few extensions, and Car Widget on the right with Apex Launcher. The screen you see is the only homescreen I have. Left and right buttons on Navigation bar bring down Notifications, and Quick Settings respectively. Home button works as app drawer on the homescreen (apex launcher setting). It really is a great setup. All this is configurable with the rom and apex.

Also i recommend the task kill, and twilight plugin for tasker. It pulls the data on when sundown and sunrise will be, and you can use tasker to set the brightness of your screen accordingly.

I forgot who recommended the anker, it was from this thread, but it works flawlessly! anything more than this would just be unnecessary. it seems like it charges faster in my car, than plugged into the wall at home!!

Heres my stuff:

Do you use anything for automation? I created a rule in AutomateIt to shut down my tablet everyday at 1:00am since I don't drive past that time. It only takes less than a minute to boot back up and my battery stays at 100% all the time. Oh, I do have a debloated kitkat rom with elementalX kernel w/fast charge enabled - loving it!

I use an automation app (Tasker) but I can't let it shutdown and bootup because my OBDII/Bluetooth adapter won't pair that quickly after bootup.

I'm also using KitKat with elementalX kernel w/fast charge.

I have to let it charge overnight about once a week. To charge overnight, I use a constant power switch:

I guess if this ever bothers me enough then I'll get a better charger.

hmmm thats smart, but i dont wanna pop it out daily to turn it back on, its not rooted. My issue is that it just charges really slow, it uses like 3-4% over night when not being used...

For the folks with the nexus table what aux cable from the tablet to the aux input would be best to use since the first gen is designed for apple ..

Has anyone thought of putting a 7" Windows tablet in? There's an HP one for $100.

SiLGeN, any aux cable will do but you'll have to splice in a filter to kill the noise (that has been discussed previously). I haven't heard of anyone using that iPhone adapter.
Palmi09, there isn't a bezel that'll fit a tablet that small.

If it's a 7", wouldn't it be the same size as the nexus?

I know somehow who has an HP win 8 tab installed with haltech software on it, which they use to tune the car with on the go... As far as I know it works. As far as any additional modifications - I don't know.

I did a quick search, and actually took a break from searching to type this, but has anyone installed a Samsung Tab 3 yet? Just picked one up a steal of a price, and looking forward to installing it when my bezel kit comes in. Anyways, being pc retarded, a lot of this is chinese or german to me lol. But i did notice a lot of you guys are running Acer's and have the home buttons on the screen, where mine has a actual button on the face.

If someone can, please keep it simple for this stupid, and maybe point me in the right direction. Not looking for a hand out, or hold my hand. Just a simple nudge "hey stupid, look over there" type thing. Thanks all!

Whats done to my car? Stuff.

Johal, thanks for correcting me; the Nexus 7 IS a 7" tablet. It looks bigger (that's what she said).

MZ777, I can't see a larger tablet than the N7 fitting in the bezel. I have thought about trimming the bezel to fit a larger screen, do you have pictures of your friend's HP 8"?

I never said it was 8"... I said it was a Windows 8 tablet and it's 7"... I think it's the one you can get for $99 and I believe it's called Stream 7. I was told it fits fine as if it was a Nexus tablet.

Takes less than a minute... By the time I get out of my garage, it's ON and ready to go but again, I have a CleanROM 3.8.0 w/ElementalX kernel and only a few apps on it... All the junk from Google is gone besides YouTube (for watching twerking videos while driving) and Play Store.

EDIT: It is not the ROM that allows to boot with power, it is the parameter that you have to do within the bootloader.

Man, I get tired from having 2 7" screens in front of my face at times, especially at night, can't even imagine anything bigger than that (no homo)
