If you could go back would you buy the car again?

So I've been debating on getting a genesis for awhile now. I currently drive a Tiburon, but its time for something new. If I get it I'm still debating on color and engine, but more than likely a 2014+ Ibiza Blue 3.8 manual is what I'd be looking to get. Now I like the idea of going from my car and having the upgrade in power, technology etc. but in my opinion I do not think its an upgrade in appearance. Now thats just my opinion. I do like the rear of the vehicle, but the sides remind me of the RD tiburon and seems plain and the front I'm not feeling too much either. Obviously it can be modded, but not a fan of putting on a fiberglass bodykit and having it crack. Especially with living in the northeast. So I'm looking to see what you guys think. I'm looking to spend around 20k and would be modding regardless of what I get. If you could go back would you buy the car again or would you get something else? If you would buy again would you stay with the same model or would you get a different year, engine size etc. I appreciate any info.

Yes I would buy my 2014 caspian black 3.8 ultimate again, I feel the Genesis coupe was one of the best RWD sport coupes out there, especialy for the price. It sounds like your kind of tired of looking at a vehicle that looks somewhat simmilar in appearance to what you already own. Its good to have that special feeling about whatever vehicle your purchacing and if the coupe isnt doing it for you explore other options, mabey your just ready for somthing diffrent. As much as I love my coupe its not the end all and theres other intresting vehicles out there. It sure would be booring if we all drove the same thing.

I got to do that with my Gen. Definiitley the 13 plus, defintitley the 8AT. Stout ass Mfer. Turning it from NA to big turbo was a blast. Incorporated all the turbometh lessons learned from my SSVT.

Yes I itend to drive this build to 80 or 100K, and re sleeve and forge build it.

Here we go again !

If I were to go back i would definitely get a gencoupe again, however i would get a 2013+ 2.0t r-spec 100%. In my base 2010 3.8 i'm missing out on every nice feature such as heated seats, sunroof, nav., and in the bk2 case I'm missing those dope gauges you get on the console haha. So point being, do NOT get a base model, you'll get left out on all of those features + no LSD(which only comes on the r-spec and track models). As for the 3.8 vs 2.0t, the 3.8 is great and pretty well balanced out of the box, great if you want to keep it fairly stock and not spend much extra money. If you're looking to mod, 2.0t blows it out of the water in terms of bang for buck mods. If you had say $3k for mods to put into either of them, you would definitely be able to get more power out of a 2.0t. The guys on here making good power with their 3.8's either have a turbokit put on (at least $5k from what I've found) or have crazy NA setups with built motors, porting, and nitrous even. While at the same time, you'll find that 400whp+ is not uncommon ground for the 2.0t guys. Plus who doesn't love the turbo noises and spool??

I wouldn't say 400whp for tge 2.0s is "common". Still takes a good bit of modding, money and expertise to get there.

I am in the 3.8 TK.com group, forged, b&b, ported, and extras added to motor, motor and trans cooling and suspension. Have also added Recaros with safety harness and a bunch of gauges for monitoring and safety. Yes, you are correct, not cheap but very happy with it.

I would buy mine all over again in a heartbeat. Love driving this car and had very few issues. Abused the hell out of it at Portland International Raceway for a day at a high performance driving school and no issues whatsoever.

Best bang for the buck out there.

My 16 3.8 Rspec is one of many many cars I have owned. Along with a Porsche 944 S I once bought, they are the only cars that after a year, and even 2, I like them more than when I bought them. Most other cars were great and then I liked them less and less as the years went on. And there were some pretty nice cars in that list, such as a 2006 Supercharged Mustang Cobra, BMW 325 with factory ungraded chip, Miata, 62 Corvette, and more.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, I meant common for the guys who mod with the intent of doing so, compared to the 3.8 guys with the same goals that is. And right, not cheap but certainly cheapER to get there in a 2.0t than a 3.8. OP, i did not mean that an intake and some stickers will get 2.0t's to 400whp

No worries. Many here think its easy to achieve the power and can be done economically and cut corners. Cutting corners gets you in a world of hurt.

Don't get me wrong I do like the vehicle. I just have been going back and forth between getting this or a used 335I or S4 etc. I know nothing about repairing BMW or Audi as I do my own work. As well as I don't really want to spend an arm and a leg on parts. Honestly my biggest problem at the moment is what color to get and to a lesser extent which engine. My tib is moonlit blue which I remember the first time seeing it I immediately liked the color more than any other color tib because It brought a more luxurious look to it in my opinion while looking extremely sporty at the same time. I'm not having that one color jump at me. I like the Ibiza blue but it doesn't seem like a deep enough blue for me. I like the Empire gray but i wish it was more of a darker charcoal or gunmetal. Then I will see the white one and like it and the red one pops but not sure I want the extra cop attention. The more and more I look at the car I do enjoy it. I pretty sure its what I will end up getting.

Good info. I will be getting a 2014+ track/ultimate more than likely. I do like the power of the 3.8 and regardless of which car I'm getting I will be modding immediately. I've never owned a FI vehicle. Do you believe if you were to mod the 2.0T up to the hp of the 3.8 it will be just as good of a daily driver and just as enjoyable if not more than the 3.8. I think 350 to 400 wheel is what I'm aiming for. I haven't searched enough but I don't think the 3.8 can get into 400whp NA.

If you don't mind me asking any idea how much you have spend on building the motor and what is your whp?

You still happy with the color of your car? Ibiza blue is the color i keep going back and forth with. I just wish it was a deeper blue. Empire gray is another I like. I saw a modded one on the highway the other day and it reminded me slightly of an aston martin.

Well based on the other vehicles you've owned I'm glad to see that you really enjoy this one. Is there anything specific that makes you really enjoy this car?

I always find myself saying this to interested buyers because it couldn't be more true haha it really does come down to personal preference. I for one, LOVE the feeling of boosted cars and i'm completely addicted to the turbo spool, power curve, turbo noises, etc. Yes, it may not be as fast as the 3.8 from factory, but i would take the slower car just so i can enjoy the turbo motor over a faster NA one. Just my personal taste. You should really go and test drive both of them if you can to see which you enjoy more when driving hard, vs. which one you like more when driving normally on a commuting basis. There are valid reasons that either of them would make the better daily driver and they both come back to your personal opinion.

It doesn't do anything REALLY SUPER DUPER FANTASTIC. It's not the best at anything except maybe $ per smiles.

But it does everything well.
- More than enough HP for an exciting time on the street, autocross, or track
- Great suspension with good wheel sizes (esp with better tires)
- Manual transmission (that I've learned to shift with no problems)
- Interior is simple, functional, good seats, and complete (except for rear camera which I added), including a back seat which is usable in a pinch
- Other then the front end, I really like the lines of the car. (and I helped the front end by removing some plastic, adding a lip)
- ABS, TC, SpinControl and good winter tires make it drive-able in the snow, and turning off the TC at the track you can push the hell out of it and the SpinControl will save your ass.

The only cars I look at and would want to have instead are all well over $60K

If you could go back would you buy the car again?

Admitting that I would buy the car again tomorrow is the highest compliment I can pay it. When I began looking in early 2014, I had narrowed my search down to the Coupe, 370Z, BMW M3, and the Mustang. The only M3s I could find had over 60k miles, and were still more than the Coupe. The 370Z got tossed for no back seat (couldn’t make it work). The Mustang was in the running because my first muscle car was an 87 5.0 LX, which I loved. However, going back to a car with a live rear axle and small brakes was not a good starting point, when the Genesis offer IRS and Brembos. I settled on a leftover 13 3.8 Rspec and got a fantastic deal. While looks are subjective, I’m still totally captivated by it, and routinely get lots of compliments on it. The only mods are coils, Magnaflow, and a painted rear lip spoiler. I have more I’d like to do to it, but at 43k miles, I’m not ready to jeopardize the warranty. If it keeps performing the way it has, I will have it for a long time. It’s driven aggressively for sure, and it will see track time this year. Based on what I know, I have no reason to doubt its capabilities there either.

I just realized my response I posted yesterday never showed up for some reason. If you don't mind me asking how much have you spend on the engine and what whp are you at. Thanks

I see you have the Ibiza blue. That's the color I'm going back and forth between, but I just wish is was a darker blue. Are you still happy with the color or do you wish you had a different color?
