Just bought a 2014 stock R-Spec 3.8

Hey all new here. Just had to buy my first car through a dealership. I got a grey 2014 genesis coupe R-spec 3.8 with 44k on it. I just want some feedback on the reliability for these cars. I plan on keeping it a DD and doing minimal modifications such as a cat back (maybe test pipes), tint and a badge swap for now. I have a good warrenty on top of the dealership warranty of what is left of it. Any feedback is much appreciated! I have been a auto mechanic for 7 years now so I do know my way around a vehicle.

Congrats on the new ride! Haven’t had mine for very long so can’t attest too much about reliability. Still, congrats on a super sexy buy.

My 2014 has only 11,000 miles on the OD .It is not a daily driver .I only bring out to kick the living $hit out these slow @ss mustangs , camaros and dodge chargers (v8's rt and such).Did many mods to my Gen but must say that some of the problems I have had would not show it's face for the masses as I am pretty hard on my Gen at times.A 4th diff mount is a must, the Gen Coupe should have came with the 4th diff mount from the factory . Engine leash or engine torque damper, shifter bushings, short shifter ,throttle body coolant by pass should be done, stiffer tranny cross member .Cat back dual exhaust ,3:909.1 diff with LSD, Drop K$N or cold air intake and a tune and your car will run pretty good provided your rear wheel tire combo is changed for wider 275/35/19's on at least rim size of 19x9.5-10.5 with 22 offset . Open up your 2 hood vents and cut the slits in fron of you snorkle air inlet open to get more air . A throttle controller is also a must have Item .Do your research on this forum and you will find many good mods you can do in time .

These are all minor mods in my cook book I spoke of . Overall though the Gen Coupe is not a bad car .If not overly abused the gen coupe will do good .Speaking of the BK2 Gen Coupe only .Doing the mods I wrote about will only make the car that much more sound.

Thanks for your input! Yeah I had a 450awhp eagle talon so I had my fun and troubles with the law. I am just going to cruise it and drive it as a daily. Every now and then give it a good pull to the speed limit (loving my insurance rate). Looking forward having no turbo lag though Haha! I'm looking at getting a isr street catback and ark test pipes. I want it lound, but nothing extreme to be respectful towards my new neighbors Haha. Is that a good set up? Or should I just get the isr race catback and keep the secondary cats?

DSM all-wheel drives are a outstanding platform.

Congrats.

I use my Veloster as a daily, but so far my Genny is solid.

Even for a daily driver I’ll say get the tros booster as a mod, it just made it more fun to drive.
